He is to stand before Eleazar the priest, who will obtain decisions for him by inquiring of the Urim before the Lord. At his command he and the entire community of the Israelites will go out, and at his command they will come in.”

Joshua will stand in front of Eleazar the priest. Eleazar will help him make decisions. Eleazar will get help from me by using the Urim. Joshua and the whole community of Israel must not make any move at all unless I command them to.”

And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him by the judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his word they shall go out, and at his word they shall come in, both he and all the people of Israel with him, the whole congregation.”

When direction from the Lord is needed, Joshua will stand before Eleazar the priest, who will use the Urim— one of the sacred lots cast before the Lord— to determine his will. This is how Joshua and the rest of the community of Israel will determine everything they should do.”

He will stand before the priest Eleazar who will consult the LORD for him with the decision of the Urim. He and all the Israelites with him, even the entire community, will go out and come back in at his command.”

And you shall put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron’s heart when he goes in before the Lord. So Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel over his heart before the Lord continually.

And when Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by Urim or by the prophets.

Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.

And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim.

And he inquired of the Lord for him, gave him provisions, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.”So the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father’s house, the priests who were in Nob. And they all came to the king.And Saul said,“ Hear now, son of Ahitub!” He answered,“ Here I am, my Lord.”Then Saul said to him,“ Why have you conspired against me, you and the son of Jesse, in that you have given him bread and a sword, and have inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as it is this day?”So Ahimelech answered the king and said,“ And who among all your servants is as faithful as David, who is the king’s son-in-law, who goes at your bidding, and is honorable in your house?Did I then begin to inquire of God for him? Far be it from me! Let not the king impute anything to his servant, or to any in the house of my father. For your servant knew nothing of all this, little or much.”

Then the children of Israel went up and wept before the Lord until evening, and asked counsel of the Lord, saying,“ Shall I again draw near for battle against the children of my brother Benjamin?” And the Lord said,“ Go up against him.”

who may go out before them and go in before them, who may lead them out and bring them in, that the congregation of the Lord may not be like sheep which have no shepherd.”

Then David said to Abiathar the priest, Ahimelech’s son,“ Please bring the ephod here to me.” And Abiathar brought the ephod to David.

And of Levi he said:“ Let Your Thummim and Your Urim be with Your holy one, Whom You tested at Massah, And with whom You contended at the waters of Meribah,

When David knew that Saul plotted evil against him, he said to Abiathar the priest,“ Bring the ephod here.”

Then the children of Israel arose and went up to the house of God to inquire of God. They said,“ Which of us shall go up first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” The Lord said,“ Judah first!”

Now after the death of Joshua it came to pass that the children of Israel asked the Lord, saying,“ Who shall be first to go up for us against the Canaanites to fight against them?”

And the governor said to them that they should not eat of the most holy things till a priest could consult with the Urim and Thummim.

Then all the children of Israel, that is, all the people, went up and came to the house of God and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening; and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.So the children of Israel inquired of the Lord( the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,and Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying,“ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of my brother Benjamin, or shall I cease?” And the Lord said,“ Go up, for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.”

Then he put the breastplate on him, and he put the Urim and the Thummim in the breastplate.
