摩西對亞倫說：「拿你的香爐，把祭壇的火盛在裏面，加上香，趕快帶到會眾那裏，為他們贖罪。因為有憤怒從耶和華面前發出，瘟疫已經開始了。」亞倫照摩西所說的拿了香爐，跑到會眾中。看哪，瘟疫已經在百姓中開始了。他就加上香，為百姓贖罪。他站在活人和死人之間，瘟疫就止住了。

大衛在那裏為耶和華築了一座壇，獻燔祭和平安祭。耶和華垂聽了為那地的祈求，瘟疫就在以色列中停止了。

大衛對阿珥楠說：「你把這禾場的地方給我，照着十足的價錢賣給我，我好在其上為耶和華築一座壇，使瘟疫在百姓中停止。」

於是摩西對以色列的審判官說：「你們的人若有與巴力‧毗珥聯合的，你們各人就要把他們殺了。」

他們這樣行，惹耶和華發怒，就有瘟疫流行在他們中間。那時，非尼哈起而干預，瘟疫這才止息。那就算他為義，世世代代，直到永遠。

「亞倫祭司的孫子，以利亞撒的兒子非尼哈，使我的憤怒轉離以色列人，因為在他們中間，他以我的妒忌為他的妒忌，使我不在妒忌中毀滅以色列人。
