摩西对亚伦说：“取香炉来，里面放些坛上的火，添上香，赶快带到会众那里为他们赎罪，因为耶和华发怒了，瘟疫已经开始。”亚伦就照着摩西的吩咐取来香炉，跑到会众当中。那时瘟疫已经在人群中蔓延起来。他就在炉中放上香为民众赎罪。他站在活人和死人中间，瘟疫就止住了。

大卫在麦场上为耶和华建了一座坛，献上燔祭和平安祭，耶和华垂听了他的祷告，瘟疫就在以色列止住了。

大卫对他说：“请你将这块麦场卖给我，我要在这里为耶和华筑一座祭坛，好止住民间的瘟疫。你全价卖给我吧。”

于是，摩西对以色列的审判官说：“你们各自把权下与巴力·毗珥苟合的人处死。”

他们的所作所为触怒耶和华，以致瘟疫降在他们中间，直到非尼哈起来惩罚罪人，瘟疫才停止。这就是他的义行，世代永存。

“亚伦祭司的孙子、以利亚撒的儿子非尼哈消了我对以色列人的怒气。因为在会众中他与我一样痛恨不贞，我才没有在烈怒中消灭他们。
