Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman right before the eyes of Moses and the whole assembly of Israel while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Then an Israelite man brought into the camp a Midianite woman. He did it right in front of the eyes of Moses and the whole community of Israel. They were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

And behold, one of the people of Israel came and brought a Midianite woman to his family, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the people of Israel, while they were weeping in the entrance of the tent of meeting.

Just then one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman into his tent, right before the eyes of Moses and all the people, as everyone was weeping at the entrance of the Tabernacle.

An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Then behold, one of the sons of Israel came and brought to his relatives a Midianite woman, in the sight of Moses and in the sight of the whole congregation of the sons of Israel, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

And indeed, one of the children of Israel came and presented to his brethren a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping at the door of the tabernacle of meeting.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the tent of meeting.

An Israelite man came bringing a Midianite woman to his relatives in the sight of Moses and the whole Israelite community while they were weeping at the entrance to the tent of meeting.

Just then one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the plain view of Moses and of the whole community of the Israelites, while they were weeping at the entrance of the tent of meeting.

Behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, while they were weeping at the door of the Tent of Meeting.

讓事奉耶和華的祭司站在聖殿門廊和祭壇中間，哭泣懇求說：「耶和華啊，求你顧惜你的子民，不要讓外族人侮辱、譏笑你的產業說，『你們的上帝在哪裡呢？』」

對米甸的長老說：「這群人將吞掉我們周圍的一切，如同牛吃光田間的草一樣。」那時，西撥的兒子巴勒做摩押王。

對他說：「你去走遍耶路撒冷，在那些因城中可憎之事而歎息哀傷的人額上畫個記號。」我聽見祂對其餘的人說：「你們要跟隨他走遍全城，毫不留情地殺戮，將男女老幼全部殺盡，但你們不能傷害額上有記號的。你們要從聖所開始。」於是他們首先殺了殿前的眾長老。

「你要為以色列人向米甸人報仇，之後你將歸到祖先那裡。」

那日，萬軍之耶和華呼召你們哭泣哀號，剃光頭髮，身披麻衣。

以色列人聽了耶和華的天使說的話，就放聲大哭，

他們是海中的狂濤，翻動著自己可恥的泡沫，是流蕩的星星，有幽幽黑暗永遠留給他們。

以斯拉從上帝的殿前起來，進了以利亞實的兒子約哈難的房間。他在那裡不吃不喝，為流亡歸來者的不忠而憂傷。他們在猶大和耶路撒冷發出通告，要求所有流亡歸來的人在耶路撒冷集合。按照眾首領和長老的決定，三天之內未到者，其財產會被沒收，他本人也要被逐出流亡歸來者的會。三天內，所有的猶大人和便雅憫人都聚集在耶路撒冷。九月二十日，大家都坐在上帝的殿前面的廣場上。因為這事，加上當時下大雨，眾人都戰戰兢兢。

因此，秋雨不降，春雨不來。你卻仍然不知羞恥，一副娼妓的嘴臉。

與米甸女子一同被殺的以色列人名叫心利，是撒路的兒子，是西緬支派的一個族長。被殺的米甸女子名叫哥斯比，她父親蘇珥是米甸人的一個族長。

免得有人聽了這誓言後，心存僥倖地說，『即使我一意孤行，連累他人，也必平安無事。』耶和華絕不會赦免這樣的人，祂必向這樣的人發烈怒，使記在這書上的一切咒詛臨到他身上，從世上抹去他的名字。耶和華必把他從以色列各支派中隔離出來，使他按律法書上約中的一切咒詛受懲罰。

這些事以後，眾首領來告訴我說：「以色列民眾、祭司和利未人還沒有與當地各族分開，他們仍隨從迦南人、赫人、比利洗人、耶布斯人、亞捫人、摩押人、埃及人和亞摩利人的可憎行為。他們為自己和自己的兒子娶這些人的女兒為妻，使聖潔的民族與當地的人混雜。首領和官員是這種不忠之事的罪魁。」一聽到這些，我便撕裂衣服和外袍，拔掉頭髮和鬍鬚，驚懼地坐下。聽了以色列上帝的話而戰抖的人都聚集在我周圍，因為流亡歸來的人不忠。我驚懼地坐在那裡，直到獻晚祭的時候。

但不管是以色列人還是外族人，若故意妄為，褻瀆了耶和華，都要被剷除，因為他藐視耶和華的話，違背耶和華的命令，必須被剷除，罪責自負。」

那麼，你們這些猶大的餘民就要聽聽耶和華的話。以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『如果你們決意去埃及住，你們所害怕的戰爭和饑荒必緊緊地跟著你們。你們必死在埃及。凡決意去埃及住的人必要死於戰爭、饑荒和瘟疫，無人能逃脫我降的災禍。』「以色列的上帝——萬軍之耶和華說，『我曾把烈怒傾倒在耶路撒冷人身上，如果你們去埃及，我也要把我的怒氣傾倒在你們身上。你們的下場將很可怕，被人責罵、咒詛和羞辱，再也見不到故土。』

以色列人擄獲了米甸的婦女、孩子、牛羊和財物，將他們的城邑營寨付之一炬，帶走了擄掠的人畜等戰利品。他們來到耶利哥對面、約旦河邊的摩押平原，把戰利品交給摩西、以利亞撒祭司和以色列全體會眾。摩西、以利亞撒祭司以及所有民眾的首領都到營外迎接他們。摩西對回來的千夫長和百夫長發怒，說：「你們為什麼讓這些婦女活著？就是她們聽了巴蘭的指使在毗珥引誘以色列人背叛耶和華，以致瘟疫降在耶和華的會眾身上。

他們多行不義，必自食惡果。他們喜愛在大白天尋歡作樂，是你們中間的敗類和渣滓，一面和你們同席，一面以欺騙為樂。他們眼中充滿淫慾，不停地犯罪，引誘那些信心不堅定的人。他們貪婪成性，實在是該受咒詛！他們離棄正道，走入歧途，重蹈比珥之子巴蘭先知的覆轍。巴蘭貪愛不義之財，

於是，加利亞的兒子約哈難和眾將領及民眾都不聽從耶和華讓他們留在猶大的命令。加利亞的兒子約哈難和眾將領率領民眾下到埃及的答比匿。民眾中有流亡到各國又返回猶大的餘民和護衛長尼布撒拉旦留給沙番的孫子、亞希甘的兒子基大利管理的男女婦孺、公主以及耶利米先知和尼利亞的兒子巴錄。他們沒有聽從耶和華的命令。

王和臣僕聽了這些話，既不懼怕，也沒有撕裂衣服。猶底每讀三四段，王就用書記的小刀把那幾段割下來扔進火盆裡，直到全卷被燒毀。

「我們不會聽從你奉耶和華的名對我們說的話。但我們必照所許的願向天后燒香奠酒，正如我們和我們的祖先、君王和官長在猶大各城和耶路撒冷街上所做的一樣。那時，我們食物充足，生活幸福，無災無禍。

他們做可憎的事會羞愧嗎？不！他們不知廉恥，毫不臉紅。因此，他們要與其他人一樣滅亡，死在我的懲罰下。這是耶和華說的。
