我的民哪！你们要追念，摩押王巴勒图谋过什么，比珥的儿子巴兰又答应了他什么，以及你们从什亭到吉甲所发生的事，好使你们知道耶和华公义的作为。”

他们有祸了，因为他们走上了该隐的道路，又为了财利闯进巴兰的歧途，并且在可拉的背叛中灭亡了。

然而有几件事我要责备你，因为在你那里有些人持守巴兰的教训。这巴兰曾经教导巴勒把绊脚石放在以色列人面前，叫他们吃祭过偶像的食物，并且行淫乱。

在以色列人所杀的人中，比珥的儿子占卜者巴兰也被他们用刀所杀。

巴兰就作歌，说：“巴勒把我从亚兰领出来，摩押王引我出东山，说：‘来吧，为我咒骂雅各，来啊，咒骂以色列。’

我要使你的后裔好像地上灰尘那么多；若能数算地上的灰尘，才能数算你的后裔。

耶和华使他的子民生育众多，使他们比他们的敌人更强盛。

他们离弃正路，走入歧途，跟从了比珥的儿子巴兰的道路。这巴兰贪爱不义的工价，他曾经因着自己的过犯受了责备：不能说话的驴，竟用人的声音说出话来，制止了这先知的狂妄。

那时，他们宣读摩西的书给众民听，见书上写着说：亚扪人和摩押人永远不可进入神的会，因为他们没有拿食物和水来迎接以色列人，反而雇用了巴兰来与他们作对，咒诅他们；但是我的神使咒诅变为祝福。

以色列人生养繁衍众多，人数增加，极其强盛，遍满了那地。那时，有一位不认识约瑟的新王兴起来，统治埃及。他对自己的人民说：“看哪，以色列民比我们众多强盛。来吧，我们要用巧计对付他们，恐怕他们增多起来，一旦发生战争，他们就与我们的仇敌联合，攻击我们，并且离开这地。”
