他與天使角力，並且得勝。他曾哀哭，懇求施恩。在伯特利遇見耶和華，耶和華在那裏吩咐我們，耶和華是萬軍之神，耶和華是他可記念的名。

耶和華對何西阿說：「給他起名叫耶斯列；因為再過片時，我要懲罰耶戶家在耶斯列流人血的罪，也必終結以色列家的王朝。

耶和華的使者對巴蘭說：「你和這些人去吧！你只要說我對你說的話。」於是巴蘭和巴勒的官員一同去了。

耶戶說：「要為巴力召集嚴肅會！」於是他們宣告了。

他就為約瑟祝福說：「願我祖父亞伯拉罕和我父親以撒所事奉的神，就是一生牧養我直到今日的神，救贖我脫離一切患難的那位使者，賜福給這兩個孩子。願我的名，我祖父亞伯拉罕和我父親以撒的名藉着他們得以流傳。又願他們在全地上多多繁衍。」

耶和華的使者在荊棘的火焰中向他顯現。摩西觀看，看哪，荊棘在火中焚燒，卻沒有燒燬。摩西說：「我要轉過去看這大異象，這荊棘為何沒有燒燬呢？」耶和華見摩西轉過去看，神就從荊棘裏呼叫他說：「摩西！摩西！」他說：「我在這裏。」神說：「不要靠近這裏。把你腳上的鞋脫下來，因為你所站的地方是聖地」。他又說：「我是你父親的神，是亞伯拉罕的神，以撒的神，雅各的神。」摩西蒙上臉，因為怕看神。
