They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way;

The Israelites traveled from Mount Hor along the way to the Red Sea. They wanted to go around Edom. But they grew tired on the way.

From Mount Hor they set out by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. And the people became impatient on the way.

Then Israel went through the desert and bypassed the land of Edom and the land of Moab. They traveled east of the land of Moab and camped on the other side of the Arnon River; they did not go through Moabite territory( the Arnon was Moab’s border).

Moses told this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and hard labor.

They traveled from Mount Hor and camped in Zalmonah.

Why do you frustrate the intent of the Israelites to cross over into the land which the LORD has given them?

When they went up to the Eshcol Valley and saw the land, they frustrated the intent of the Israelites so that they did not enter the land that the LORD had given them.

( Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites were living in the valleys.) Tomorrow, turn and journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red Sea.”

Do not be hostile toward them, because I am not giving you any of their land, not even a footprint, for I have given Mount Seir as an inheritance for Esau.You may purchase food to eat and water to drink from them.All along the way I, the LORD your God, have blessed your every effort. I have been attentive to your travels through this great wasteland. These forty years I have been with you; you have lacked for nothing.’”So we turned away from our relatives the descendants of Esau, the inhabitants of Seir, turning from the desert route, from Elat and Ezion Geber, and traveling the way of the Moab wastelands.

So Moses did as the LORD commanded; and they went up Mount Hor in the sight of the whole community.

But Edom said to him,“ You will not pass through me, or I will come out against you with the sword.”Then the Israelites said to him,“ We will go along the highway, and if we or our cattle drink any of your water, we will pay for it. We will only pass through on our feet, without doing anything else.”But he said,“ You may not pass through.” Then Edom came out against them with a large and powerful force.So Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border; therefore Israel turned away from him.So the entire company of Israelites traveled from Kadesh and came to Mount Hor.And the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in Mount Hor, by the border of the land of Edom. He said:

so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know.

They strengthened the souls of the disciples and encouraged them to continue in the faith, saying,“ We must enter the kingdom of God through many persecutions.”

But as for you, turn back and head for the desert by the way to the Red Sea.”
