曾引領你經過那大而可怕的曠野，有火蛇、蠍子、乾旱無水之地。他也曾為你使水從堅硬的磐石中流出來，

看哪，我要在何烈的磐石那裏，站在你面前。你要擊打磐石，水就會從磐石流出來，給百姓喝。」摩西就在以色列的長老眼前這樣做了。

因為人的怒氣並不能實現上帝的義。

到了基頓的禾場，因為牛失前蹄，烏撒就伸手扶住約櫃。耶和華的怒氣向烏撒發作，因他伸手扶住約櫃而擊殺他，他就死在那裏，在上帝面前。

掃羅對撒母耳說：「我有罪了！我違背了耶和華的指示和你的命令；因為我懼怕百姓，聽從了他們的話。

「你拿着杖去，和你的哥哥亞倫召集會眾，在他們眼前吩咐磐石湧出水來，水就會從磐石流出，給會眾和他們的牲畜喝。」

你為何沒有聽從耶和華的話呢？你為何急着撲向掠物，行耶和華眼中看為惡的事呢？」

我曾在曠野，就是那乾旱之地認識你。

凡我所吩咐你們的，都教導他們遵守。看哪，我天天與你們同在，直到世代的終結。」

撒母耳到了掃羅那裏，掃羅對他說：「願耶和華賜福給你，耶和華的命令我已遵守了。」撒母耳說：「我耳中聽見有羊叫、牛鳴的聲音，又是甚麼呢？」

他就對從猶大來的神人宣告說：「耶和華如此說：『你既違背耶和華的指示，不遵守耶和華－你上帝的命令，反倒回來，在耶和華禁止你吃飯喝水的地方吃了飯喝了水，因此你的屍體必不得葬在你祖先的墳墓裏。』」神人吃喝完了，老先知為他帶回來的先知備驢。神人就去了，在路上有隻獅子遇見他，把他咬死。他的屍體倒在路上，驢站在屍體旁邊，獅子也站在屍體旁邊。

他使水從磐石湧出，叫水如江河下流。

亞倫的兒子拿答和亞比戶各拿着自己的香爐，把火放在爐裏，加上香，在耶和華面前獻上凡火，是耶和華沒有吩咐他們的。

那時大衛說：「除了利未人之外，無人可抬上帝的約櫃，因為耶和華揀選他們抬上帝的約櫃，永遠事奉他。」

因為你們上一次沒有抬這約櫃，並且我們沒有按規矩求問耶和華－我們的上帝，所以他衝出來攻擊我們。」
