時猶大至吉甲見約書亞、其中基尼洗族耶孚尼子迦勒謂之曰、主在加叠巴尼亞為爾為我所諭神人摩西者、為爾所知、其時我年四十歲、主之僕摩西自加叠巴尼亞遣我窺探迦南地、我循我心中誠意以復之、與我同行之兄弟、使民膽怯、惟我順從主我之天主、當時摩西誓我曰、爾既順從主我之天主、故爾足所履之地、必歸爾與爾子孫、永遠為業、自主諭摩西時、至今四十五年矣、其間以色列人遊行曠野、主踐其前言、保全保全原文作生存我至於今日、今我年八十五歲矣、我力尚健、與摩西遣我之時無異、我力尚如彼時、能出入以戰、今求以當時許我之山、賜我為業、其時爾聞在彼有亞衲族人、其城垣高大鞏固、若夢主祐我、則可逐之、如主所許、約書亞為耶孚尼子迦勒祝福、以希伯崙予之為業、緣基尼洗族耶孚尼子迦勒、順從主以色列之天主、故得希伯崙為業、至於今日、

蓋主曾有言曰、其人必死於曠野、故耶孚尼子迦勒與嫩之子約書亞外、其餘無一存留、

惟耶孚尼子迦勒盡心從我耶和華、則必得見、其所履之地、我將賜之及其子孫、

勿效取悅於人者、第目前服役、當如基督之僕、誠心而行天主之旨、

求主我列祖亞伯拉罕以撒以色列之天主、使主之民常存如此之心意、使之恆心歸向主、

我一心呼籲、求主應允、我必遵守主之典章、

我願存心正直、遵守主之典章、我若如是、則不至於羞愧、○

眾既誠心樂輸獻於主、民因之歡悅、大衛王亦欣喜不勝、

我子、當一心歸我、爾目當注注或作悅我示爾之道、

爾當盡心盡意盡力、愛主爾之天主、

亞瑪謝行善於主前、第心不專誠、

既至、見天主之恩甚喜、乃勸眾堅心從主、

出伊及之眾、自二十歲以上者、因不忠心從我、必不得見我誓賜亞伯拉罕以撒雅各之地、惟基尼洗族耶孚尼子迦勒、與嫩之子約書亞、因忠心從我、得入其地、

迦勒見民怨摩西、乃安撫之曰、我儕可以上取其地、必能克之、

凡爾所為者、皆當由誠心而為之、以為事主、非事人也、
