那時，猶大支派的人來到吉甲見約書亞，其中有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒。他對約書亞說：「你知道耶和華在加低斯·巴尼亞跟上帝的僕人摩西提到關於你和我的事。我四十歲那年，耶和華的僕人摩西從加低斯·巴尼亞派我來偵察這地方，我如實稟告他。與我同去的弟兄的稟告令以色列人膽戰心驚，但我忠心地追隨我的上帝耶和華。所以，當日摩西就向我起誓，『你腳踏過的地方必永遠歸你和你的子孫作產業，因為你忠心地追隨我的上帝耶和華。』耶和華照祂的應許，讓我又活了四十五年，這些日子都是跟以色列人在曠野一起度過的。看！我現在已經八十五歲了，仍像當年摩西派我出去時那樣身強力壯，跟當年一樣能征善戰。現在，求你照耶和華當日向我應許的，把這山區賜給我。你親耳聽到那裡有亞衲人，他們的城池高大堅固。但如果耶和華與我同在，我必照著祂的應許把這些人趕走。」於是，約書亞便祝福耶孚尼的兒子迦勒，把希伯崙給他，作為他的產業。所以，希伯崙至今仍是基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒的產業，因為他忠心地追隨以色列的上帝耶和華。

因為耶和華說過，那批人都要死在曠野。果然，除了耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞以外，上次登記的人無一存活。

只有耶孚尼的兒子迦勒能看見，我必把他所踏之地賜給他和他的後代，因為他全心全意地跟從我。』

不要只做一些討好人的表面工夫，要像基督的奴僕一樣從心裡遵行上帝的旨意。

我們祖先亞伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝耶和華啊！求你使你的子民常存這樣的心志，使他們的心忠於你。

耶和華啊，我迫切向你禱告，求你應允我，我必遵守你的律例。

願我能全心遵守你的律例，使我不致羞愧。

因為他們誠心誠意地把東西獻給上帝，百姓歡喜不已，大衛王也非常歡喜。

孩子啊，把你的心交給我，歡然走我的道路。

你們要全心、全意、全力愛你們的上帝耶和華。

他做耶和華視為正的事，只是沒有全心去做。

他到達後，看見上帝所賜的恩典，就萬分高興，勸勉他們要全心地忠於主。

『從埃及出來、二十歲以上的人都看不到我起誓要賜給亞伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的土地，因為他們沒有全心全意地跟從我；只有基尼洗族耶孚尼的兒子迦勒和嫩的兒子約書亞可以看到，因為他們全心全意地跟從我。』

迦勒讓站在摩西面前的民眾安靜，然後說：「我們立刻去佔領那地方吧！我們必能取勝。」

無論做什麼事，都要發自內心，像是為主做的，而不是為人做的，
