打探迦南的人中，嫩的儿子约书亚和耶孚尼的儿子迦勒撕裂衣服，对以色列全体会众说：“我们去打探的地方是佳美之地。如果耶和华喜悦我们，祂必把我们带到那片土地，将那奶蜜之乡赐给我们。你们不要背叛耶和华，也不要害怕那里的人，他们不过是我们的猎物，他们已失去庇护。耶和华与我们同在，不要怕他们。”

那时，犹大支派的人来到吉甲见约书亚，其中有基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒。他对约书亚说：“你知道耶和华在加低斯·巴尼亚跟上帝的仆人摩西提到关于你和我的事。我四十岁那年，耶和华的仆人摩西从加低斯·巴尼亚派我来侦察这地方，我如实禀告他。与我同去的弟兄的禀告令以色列人胆战心惊，但我忠心地追随我的上帝耶和华。所以，当日摩西就向我起誓，‘你脚踏过的地方必永远归你和你的子孙作产业，因为你忠心地追随我的上帝耶和华。’耶和华照祂的应许，让我又活了四十五年，这些日子都是跟以色列人在旷野一起度过的。看！我现在已经八十五岁了，仍像当年摩西派我出去时那样身强力壮，跟当年一样能征善战。现在，求你照耶和华当日向我应许的，把这山区赐给我。你亲耳听到那里有亚衲人，他们的城池高大坚固。但如果耶和华与我同在，我必照着祂的应许把这些人赶走。”于是，约书亚便祝福耶孚尼的儿子迦勒，把希伯仑给他，作为他的产业。所以，希伯仑至今仍是基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒的产业，因为他忠心地追随以色列的上帝耶和华。

因为耶和华说过，那批人都要死在旷野。果然，除了耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚以外，上次登记的人无一存活。

只有耶孚尼的儿子迦勒能看见，我必把他所踏之地赐给他和他的后代，因为他全心全意地跟从我。’

不要只做一些讨好人的表面工夫，要像基督的奴仆一样从心里遵行上帝的旨意。

我们祖先亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的上帝耶和华啊！求你使你的子民常存这样的心志，使他们的心忠于你。

耶和华啊，我迫切向你祷告，求你应允我，我必遵守你的律例。

愿我能全心遵守你的律例，使我不致羞愧。

因为他们诚心诚意地把东西献给上帝，百姓欢喜不已，大卫王也非常欢喜。

孩子啊，把你的心交给我，欢然走我的道路。

你们要全心、全意、全力爱你们的上帝耶和华。

他做耶和华视为正的事，只是没有全心去做。

他到达后，看见上帝所赐的恩典，就万分高兴，劝勉他们要全心地忠于主。

‘从埃及出来、二十岁以上的人都看不到我起誓要赐给亚伯拉罕、以撒和雅各的土地，因为他们没有全心全意地跟从我；只有基尼洗族耶孚尼的儿子迦勒和嫩的儿子约书亚可以看到，因为他们全心全意地跟从我。’

迦勒让站在摩西面前的民众安静，然后说：“我们立刻去占领那地方吧！我们必能取胜。”

无论做什么事，都要发自内心，像是为主做的，而不是为人做的，
