If this is how you are going to treat me, please go ahead and kill me— if I have found favor in your eyes— and do not let me face my own ruin.”

耶和華啊，現在就求你取走我的性命吧！因為我死了比活著更好。」

我的熱切盼望和期待是：我在任何事上都將不至於蒙羞；而現在也能像往常一樣，無論藉著生，還是藉著死，總要滿有膽量地讓基督在我身上被尊為大。因為對我來說，活著就是基督，死去就有益處。但如果我繼續活在世上，這就使我有工作的成果，於是我不明白該怎樣選擇了。我正處在兩難之間：我渴望離世與基督在一起，因為這是好得無比的；可是為了你們的緣故，我更需要留在世上。

但要讓忍耐發揮完全的功效，好使你們成熟、完備，在任何事上都沒有缺欠。

太陽升起的時候，神又指派了炎熱的東風；太陽直射在約拿的頭上，他就發昏。於是他為自己求死，說：「我死了比活著更好。」神對約拿說：「你因這棵蓖麻就這樣惱火，難道有理嗎？」約拿說：「我惱火得要死，當然有理！」
