以色列人離開埃及後第二年的二月一日，耶和華在西奈曠野的會幕中對摩西說：

上帝從提幔來，聖者從巴蘭山來。（細拉）祂的榮耀遮蔽諸天，頌讚祂的聲音響徹大地。

從利非訂啟行，至西奈曠野紮營；從西奈曠野啟行，至基博羅·哈他瓦紮營；

「我們照我們上帝耶和華的吩咐，從何烈山出發，走過你們所見的那大而可怕的曠野，前往亞摩利山區，來到加低斯·巴尼亞。

撒母耳死了，以色列人都聚在一起哀悼他，把他安葬在拉瑪他自己的墳地裡。之後，大衛到了巴蘭的曠野。

以色列人離開埃及後第二年的一月，耶和華在西奈曠野對摩西說：

「耶和華從西奈山來，在西珥山向我們顯現，祂從巴蘭山發出光輝；祂帶著千萬聖者來臨，祂右邊有閃耀的光芒。

一路上，雲彩從聖幕升起，他們就出發。雲彩不升起，他們就不出發，一直等到雲彩升起。

以色列人從疏割啟程，來到曠野邊緣的以倘安營。
