On the twenty-fourth day of the same month, the Israelites gathered together, fasting and wearing sackcloth and putting dust on their heads.

It was the 24th day of the seventh month. The Israelites gathered together again. They didn’t eat any food. They wore the rough clothing people wear when they’re sad. They put dust on their heads.

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the people of Israel were assembled with fasting and in sackcloth, and with earth on their heads.

On October 31 the people assembled again, and this time they fasted and dressed in burlap and sprinkled dust on their heads.

那一天有一個便雅憫人從陣上跑來，到了示羅，衣裳撕裂，頭上放土。

他們事奉主禁食的時候、聖靈說：『你們總要為我將巴拿巴和掃羅分別出來，去作我所呼召他們去作的工。』於是他們禁食禱告，給二人按手，就打發他們走了。

第三天，忽見一人從營裏掃羅那裏出來，衣服撕裂，頭上放土；一到大衛面前，就伏地叩拜。

王的諭旨和勅令所到的各省各處，猶大人中都大大哀悼，並且禁食、哭泣、舉哀；多數人也拿麻布和爐灰去當床鋪。

『又在七月十五日，你們收藏了地的出產後，要守永恆主的節七天；頭一天要完全歇息，第八天也要完全歇息。

『你去招聚書珊所找得着的一切猶大人為我禁食，不喫不喝三天，就是三晝三夜；我也這樣，我和我的侍女也要禁食；這樣，我就不照法令進去見王；我若死，就死罷。』

他們從遠處舉目而看，認不出他來，就放聲大哭；各人撕裂了外袍，向天撒塵土在自己頭上。

『你要告訴以色列人說；七月十五日是住棚節，要給永恆主守這節七天。

當那日子、主萬軍之永恆主叫人哀哭號咷，頭上光禿，腰束麻布；

以色列眾人、就是眾民、便上去到了伯特利，坐在永恆主面前那裏哭；那一天禁食、直到晚上，又在永恆主面前獻上燔祭和平安祭。

祭司啊，腰束麻布而慟哭吧！伺候祭壇的啊，哀號哦！伺候我的上帝的啊，披着麻布進殿去過夜吧！因為素祭和奠祭都從你們的上帝殿中停止了。要行聖禮擬定禁食，宣告聖節會哦；要聚集眾長老、國中一切居民到你們的上帝永恆主的殿，向永恆主哀呼哦。

尼尼微人信了上帝，便宣告禁食，從最大的到至小的都穿着麻衣。這消息傳到尼尼微王那裏，他就從寶座上起來，脫下朝服，披上麻布，坐在爐灰中。又出通告傳遍尼尼微說：『王和大臣有諭旨說：人和牲口、牛羣羊羣、甚麼都不可嘗，草不可喫，水也不可喝。人和牲口都要披上麻布；要極力呼求上帝；各人要回轉過來、離開他的壞行徑，丟棄手中的強暴；

約沙法懼怕，便咬緊牙根要尋求永恆主；在猶大全地宣告禁食。

七月二十三日，王遣散了眾民回家；眾民因見了永恆主向大衛所羅門和他人民以色列所施的恩惠，他們心裏都很歡喜快樂。

在錫安吹號角哦！要行聖禮擬定禁食，宣告聖節會哦；要聚集人民，使大眾潔淨自己為聖；要招聚老年人，聚集孩童，以及在母懷嗍奶的；要叫新郎出洞房，叫新婦離開內室。伺候永恆主的祭司須要在廊子和祭壇之間哭泣，說：『永恆主啊，顧惜你人民哦！不要讓你的產業被羞辱，而在列國中令人談笑哦。為甚麼容人在列族之民中譏刺說：「他們的上帝在哪裏呢？」』
