On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and the Levites, gathered around Ezra the teacher to give attention to the words of the Law.

And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them,

Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.And they read in the book, in the law of God, distinctly; and they gave the sense, so that they understood the reading.

And the whole assembly took counsel to keep other seven days; and they kept other seven days with gladness.

And the people saw them going, and many knew them, and they ran together there on foot from all the cities, and outwent them.And he came forth and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things.

And the Lord’s servant must not strive, but be gentle towards all, apt to teach, forbearing,in meekness correcting them that oppose themselves; if peradventure God may give them repentance unto the knowledge of the truth,

Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish.

And he was teaching daily in the temple. But the chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people sought to destroy him:and they could not find what they might do; for the people all hung upon him, listening.
