Then as I looked over the situation, I called together the nobles and the rest of the people and said to them,“ Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”

After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people,“ Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.”

I looked things over. Then I stood up and spoke to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people. I said,“ Don’t be afraid of your enemies. Remember the Lord. He is great and powerful. So fight for your families. Fight for your sons and daughters. Fight for your wives and homes.”

And I looked and arose and said to the nobles and to the officials and to the rest of the people,“ Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes.”

After I made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people,“ Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the great and awe-inspiring Lord, and fight for your countrymen, your sons and daughters, your wives and homes.”

When I saw their fear, I stood and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people:“ Do not be afraid of them; remember the Lord who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”

And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people,“ Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”

And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord, who is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

After I made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people,“ Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the great and awe-inspiring Lord, and fight for your countrymen, your sons and daughters, your wives and homes.”

And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the Lord,[ which is] great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.

When I had made an inspection, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials, and the rest of the people,“ Don’t be afraid of them. Remember the great and awesome Lord, and fight on behalf of your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your families!”

I looked, and rose up, and said to the nobles, to the rulers, and to the rest of the people,“ Don’t be afraid of them! Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”

Do not rebel against the Lord, and don’t be afraid of the people of the land. They are only helpless prey to us! They have no protection, but the Lord is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!”

Be courageous! Let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord’s will be done.”

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.“ See, all your angry enemies lie there, confused and humiliated. Anyone who opposes you will die and come to nothing.You will look in vain for those who tried to conquer you. Those who attack you will come to nothing.For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you,‘ Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.Though you are a lowly worm, O Jacob, don’t be afraid, people of Israel, for I will help you. I am the Lord, your Redeemer. I am the Holy One of Israel.’

So we can say with confidence,“ The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?”

“ But I said to you,‘ Don’t be shocked or afraid of them!The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt.

Then I said,“ O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps his covenant of unfailing love with those who love him and obey his commands,

“ Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side!

He will say to them,‘ Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them.For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’

“ Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

“ For the Lord your God is the God of gods and Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God, who shows no partiality and cannot be bribed.

“ I, yes I, am the one who comforts you. So why are you afraid of mere humans, who wither like the grass and disappear?Yet you have forgotten the Lord, your Creator, the one who stretched out the sky like a canopy and laid the foundations of the earth. Will you remain in constant dread of human oppressors? Will you continue to fear the anger of your enemies? Where is their fury and anger now? It is gone!

Some nations boast of their chariots and horses, but we boast in the name of the Lord our God.

You faithfully answer our prayers with awesome deeds, O God our savior. You are the hope of everyone on earth, even those who sail on distant seas.

This is my command— be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

So also, golden splendor comes from the mountain of God. He is clothed in dazzling splendor.

He said,“ Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.Tomorrow, march out against them. You will find them coming up through the ascent of Ziz at the end of the valley that opens into the wilderness of Jeruel.But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

Then they remembered those days of old when Moses led his people out of Egypt. They cried out,“ Where is the one who brought Israel through the sea, with Moses as their shepherd? Where is the one who sent his Holy Spirit to be among his people?Where is the one whose power was displayed when Moses lifted up his hand— the one who divided the sea before them, making himself famous forever?Where is the one who led them through the bottom of the sea? They were like fine stallions racing through the desert, never stumbling.

Say to God,“ How awesome are your deeds! Your enemies cringe before your mighty power.

The Lord is a jealous God, filled with vengeance and rage. He takes revenge on all who oppose him and continues to rage against his enemies!The Lord is slow to get angry, but his power is great, and he never lets the guilty go unpunished. He displays his power in the whirlwind and the storm. The billowing clouds are the dust beneath his feet.At his command the oceans dry up, and the rivers disappear. The lush pastures of Bashan and Carmel fade, and the green forests of Lebanon wither.In his presence the mountains quake, and the hills melt away; the earth trembles, and its people are destroyed.Who can stand before his fierce anger? Who can survive his burning fury? His rage blazes forth like fire, and the mountains crumble to dust in his presence.The Lord is good, a strong refuge when trouble comes. He is close to those who trust in him.

The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is here among us; the God of Israel is our fortress. Interlude

Oh, that you would burst from the heavens and come down! How the mountains would quake in your presence!As fire causes wood to burn and water to boil, your coming would make the nations tremble. Then your enemies would learn the reason for your fame!When you came down long ago, you did awesome deeds beyond our highest expectations. And oh, how the mountains quaked!

Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people!

And I said,“ This is my fate; the Most High has turned his hand against me.”But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago.They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works.O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you?You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.By your strong arm, you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. InterludeWhen the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths.The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed.Your thunder roared from the whirlwind; the lightning lit up the world! The earth trembled and shook.Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters— a pathway no one knew was there!You led your people along that road like a flock of sheep, with Moses and Aaron as their shepherds.

I remember the days of old. I ponder all your great works and think about what you have done.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping him with holy fear and awe.For our God is a devouring fire.

Look! He has placed the land in front of you. Go and occupy it as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has promised you. Don’t be afraid! Don’t be discouraged!’

They staggered back under God’s command:“ If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”Moses himself was so frightened at the sight that he said,“ I am terrified and trembling.”

The Lord is my light and my salvation— so why should I be afraid? The Lord is my fortress, protecting me from danger, so why should I tremble?
