报信的回答说：“以色列人在非利士人面前逃跑，百姓中被杀的很多！你的两个儿子何弗尼和非尼哈也都死了，并且神的约柜已经被掳去了。”他一提到神的约柜，以利就从城门旁自己的位子上往后跌倒，折断颈项而死，因为他年纪老迈，身体沉重。以利作以色列的士师四十年。以利的媳妇，非尼哈的妻子怀孕将到产期，她听见神的约柜被掳，公公和丈夫都死了，就曲身生产，极其疼痛。她将要死的时候，旁边站着的妇人们对她说：“不要怕！你生了男孩了。”她不回答，也不放在心上。她给孩子起名叫以迦博，说：“荣耀离开以色列了！”这是因为神的约柜被掳去，又因为她公公和丈夫都死了。她又说：“荣耀离开以色列，因为神的约柜被掳去了。”

我要聚集那些因无节期而愁烦的人，他们曾远离你，是你的重担和羞辱。

他说：“我是希伯来人，我敬畏耶和华，天上的神，他创造了沧海和陆地。”

要他们祈求天上的神施怜悯，将这奥秘指明，免得但以理和他的同伴与巴比伦其余的智慧人一同灭亡。

他们这样回答我们说：‘我们是天和地之神的仆人，重建多年前所建造的殿，就是以色列一位伟大的君王建造完成的。但因我们祖先惹天上的神发怒，神把他们交在迦勒底人巴比伦王尼布甲尼撒的手中，他就拆毁这殿，又把百姓掳到巴比伦。

我一听见这事，就撕裂衣服和外袍，拔了头发和胡须，惊惶地坐着。
