Now when I heard these words, I sat down and wept and mourned for days; and I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

And so he judged Israel for forty years.Now his daughter in law, Phinehas’ wife, was pregnant and about to give birth; and when she heard the news that the ark of God had been taken and that her father in law and her husband had died, she kneeled down and gave birth, because her pains came upon her.And about the time of her death the women who were standing by her said to her,“ Do not be afraid, for you have given birth to a son.” But she did not answer or pay attention.And she named the boy Ichabod, saying,“ The glory has departed from Israel,” because the ark of God had been taken and because of her father in law and her husband.So she said,“ The glory has departed from Israel, because the ark of God has been taken.”

I will gather those who are worried about the appointed feasts— They came from you, Zion; The disgrace of exile is a burden on them.

So he said to them,“ I am a Hebrew, and I fear the Lord God of heaven who made the sea and the dry land.”

so that they might request compassion from the God of heaven concerning this secret, so that Daniel and his friends would not be killed with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

So they answered us as follows, saying,‘ We are the servants of the God of heaven and earth, and are rebuilding the temple that was built many years ago, which a great king of Israel built and finished.But because our fathers provoked the God of heaven to wrath, He handed them over to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the Chaldean, who destroyed this temple and deported the people to Babylon.

When I heard about this matter, I tore my garment and my robe, and pulled out some of the hair from my head and my beard, and sat down appalled.
