And they said to me,“ The remnant there in the province who survived the captivity are in great distress and disgrace, and the wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire.”

他們對我說：『那些沒有被擄的餘民在猶大省那裏遭大患難，受凌辱；耶路撒冷的城牆拆了破口，城門又被火焚燒。』

They said to me,“ Those who survived the exile and are back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates have been burned with fire.”

He and the men with him said to me,“ Some of the people who returned are still alive. They are back in the land of Judah. But they are having a hard time. They are ashamed. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down. Its gates have been burned with fire.”

And they said to me,“ The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down, and its gates are destroyed by fire.”

They said to me,“ Things are not going well for those who returned to the province of Judah. They are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem has been torn down, and the gates have been destroyed by fire.”

They said to me,“ The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.”

And they said to me,“ The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

They said to me,“ The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned down.”

And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province[ are] in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also[ is] broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.

They said to me,“ The remnant that remains from the exile there in the province are experiencing considerable adversity and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem lies breached, and its gates have been burned down!”

They said to me,“ The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

Then I said to them,“ You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates have been burned by fire. Come, let’s rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a disgrace.”

So all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the bodyguards tore down the walls around Jerusalem.

And I said to the king,“ May the king live forever. Why should my face not be sad when the city, the site of my fathers’ tombs, is desolate and its gates have been consumed by fire?”

So I went out at night by the Valley Gate in the direction of the Dragon’s Spring and on to the Dung Gate, and I was inspecting the walls of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which had been consumed by fire.

These are the people of the province who came up from the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had taken into exile, and who returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his city,

May it be known to the king that we have gone to the province of Judah, to the house of the great God which is being built with large stones, and beams are being laid in the walls; and this work is being performed with great care and is succeeding in their hands.

You turn us over to be eaten like sheep, And have scattered us among the nations.You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale.You make us an object of reproach to our neighbors, Of scoffing and ridicule to those around us.You make us a proverb among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.

We have become a disgrace before our neighbors, An object of derision and ridicule to those around us.

then I will cut Israel off from the land which I have given them, and the house which I have consecrated for My name, I will expel from My sight. So Israel will become a saying and an object of derision among all peoples.

So the entire army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard tore down all the walls around Jerusalem.

Behold, we are slaves today, And as for the land which You gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its bounty, Behold, we are slaves on it.And its abundant produce is for the kings Whom You have set over us because of our sins; They also rule over our bodies And over our cattle as they please, So we are in great distress.

By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down and wept, When we remembered Zion.Upon the willows in the midst of it We hung our harps.For there our captors demanded of us songs, And our tormentors, jubilation, saying,“ Sing for us one of the songs of Zion!”

provoking Me to anger with the works of your hands, burning sacrifices to other gods in the land of Egypt where you are entering to reside, so that you may be eliminated and become a curse and a disgrace among all the nations of the earth?Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers, the wickedness of the kings of Judah and the wickedness of their wives, your own wickedness and the wickedness of your wives, which they committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?Yet they have not become contrite even to this day, nor have they feared, nor walked in My Law or My statutes, which I placed before you and before your fathers.” ’“ Therefore this is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:‘ Behold, I am going to set My face against you for a disaster, even to eliminate all Judah.And I will take away the remnant of Judah who have set their minds on entering the land of Egypt to reside there, and they will all meet their end in the land of Egypt; they will fall by the sword or meet their end by famine. From the small to the great, they will die by the sword and famine; and they will become a curse, an object of horror, an imprecation, and a disgrace.

“ Go up through her vine rows and destroy, But do not execute a complete destruction; Strip away her branches, For they are not the Lord’s.

So I will profane the officials of the sanctuary, And I will turn Jacob over to destruction and Israel to abuse.

Now it happened in the days of Ahasuerus, the Ahasuerus who reigned from India to Cush over 127 provinces,

Now these are the heads of the provinces who lived in Jerusalem, but in the cities of Judah each lived on his own property in their cities— the Israelites, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon’s servants.

For this is what the Lord of armies, the God of Israel says:“ As My anger and wrath have gushed out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so My wrath will gush out on you when you enter Egypt. And you will become a curse, an object of horror, an imprecation, and a disgrace; and you will not see this place again.”

Now these are the people of the province who came up out of the captivity of the exiles whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had taken into exile to Babylon, and they returned to Jerusalem and Judah, each to his city.

Rise up, you women who are at ease, And hear my voice; Listen to my word, You complacent daughters.Within a year and a few days You will be troubled, you complacent daughters; For the vintage is ended, And the fruit gathering will not come.Tremble, you women who are at ease; Be troubled, you complacent daughters; Strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist,Beat your breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine,For the land of my people in which thorns and briars will come up; Indeed, for all the joyful houses and for the jubilant city.For the palace has been neglected, the populated city abandoned. Hill and watch tower have become caves forever, A delight for wild donkeys, a pasture for flocks,

The Chaldeans also burned the king’s palace and the houses of the people with fire, and they tore down the walls of Jerusalem.

I will make them an object of terror and an evil for all the kingdoms of the earth, as a disgrace and a proverb, a taunt and a curse in all the places where I will scatter them.

You have heard their reproach, Lord, All their schemes against me.

Your holy cities have become a wilderness, Zion has become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.Our holy and beautiful house, Where our fathers praised You, Has been burned by fire; And all our precious things have become a ruin.

I will pursue them with the sword, with famine, and with plague; and I will make them an object of terror to all the kingdoms of the earth, to be a curse and an object of horror and hissing, and a disgrace among all the nations where I have driven them,

So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard: I will remove its hedge and it will be consumed; I will break down its wall and it will become trampled ground.

In the days of her affliction and homelessness Jerusalem remembers all her treasures That were hers since the days of old, When her people fell into the hand of the adversary And no one helped her. The adversaries saw her, They laughed at her ruin.

Remember, Lord, what has come upon us; Look, and see our disgrace!
