After they arrived at Capernaum and settled in a house, Jesus asked his disciples,“ What were you discussing out on the road?”

They came to Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them,“ What were you arguing about on the road?”

Then his disciples began arguing about which of them was the greatest.But Jesus knew their thoughts, so he brought a little child to his side.Then he said to them,“ Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.”

About that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked,“ Who is greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven?”Jesus called a little child to him and put the child among them.Then he said,“ I tell you the truth, unless you turn from your sins and become like little children, you will never get into the Kingdom of Heaven.So anyone who becomes as humble as this little child is the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.“ And anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf is welcoming me.

O Lord, you have examined my heart and know everything about me.You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away.You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do.You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

A third time he asked him,“ Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said,“ Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said,“ Then feed my sheep.

I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who searches out the thoughts and intentions of every person. And I will give to each of you whatever you deserve.

No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.

Jesus knew immediately what they were thinking, so he asked them,“ Why do you question this in your hearts?

On their arrival in Capernaum, the collectors of the Temple tax came to Peter and asked him,“ Doesn’t your teacher pay the Temple tax?”
