他們到了羣眾那裏，有一個人上耶穌跟前來，跪在他面前說：『主啊，憐恤我的兒子，因為他患癲癇病，受苦着呢：他屢次跌在火裏，屢次跌在水裏。我帶他上你門徒這裏來，他們卻不能治好他。』耶穌回答說：『噯，沒有信心又乖僻的世代啊，我同你們在一起要到幾時呢？我容忍你們要到幾時呢？把他帶到我這裏來吧。』耶穌斥責他，鬼就從他身上出來；從那一刻，那孩子就得治好了。那時門徒私下上耶穌跟前來，說：『為甚麼我們不能趕它呢？』耶穌對他們說：『是因為你們的信心小；我實在告訴你們，如果你們有信心像一粒芥菜種，就是對這座山說：「你從這裏挪到那裏」，它也必挪去的；並且在你們、必沒有一件事是不可能的。』

耶穌從那裏出來，經學士和法利賽人就逼得很厲害，盤問他更多的事，伺伏等着他，要從他口中獵取話柄來。

有幾個經學士在那裏坐着；心裏議論說：
