答曰：『伊理靄固需先來振興萬事、然經不亦言人子應如何備嘗苦辱乎？

Jesus replied,“ To be sure, Elijah does come first, and restores all things. Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and be rejected?

Jesus replied,“ That’s right. Elijah does come first. He makes all things new again. So why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer much and not be accepted?

And he said to them,“ Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Jesus responded,“ Elijah is indeed coming first to get everything ready. Yet why do the Scriptures say that the Son of Man must suffer greatly and be treated with utter contempt?

“ Elijah does come first and restores all things,” he replied.“ Why then is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

Then He answered and told them,“ Indeed, Elijah is coming first and restores all things. And how is it written concerning the Son of Man, that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

And he said unto them, Elijah indeed cometh first, and restoreth all things: and how is it written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be set at nought?

“ Elijah does come first and restores everything,” He replied.“ How then is it written about the Son of Man that He must suffer many things and be treated with contempt?

And he answered and told them, Elias verily cometh first, and restoreth all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.

Who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?For He grew up before Him like a tender shoot, And like a root out of dry ground; He has no stately form or majesty That we would look at Him, Nor an appearance that we would take pleasure in Him.He was despised and abandoned by men, A man of great pain and familiar with sickness; And like one from whom people hide their faces, He was despised, and we had no regard for Him.However, it was our sicknesses that He Himself bore, And our pains that He carried; Yet we ourselves assumed that He had been afflicted, Struck down by God, and humiliated.But He was pierced for our offenses, He was crushed for our wrongdoings; The punishment for our well being was laid upon Him, And by His wounds we are healed.All of us, like sheep, have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wrongdoing of us all To fall on Him.He was oppressed and afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.By oppression and judgment He was taken away; And as for His generation, who considered That He was cut off from the land of the living For the wrongdoing of my people, to whom the blow was due?And His grave was assigned with wicked men, Yet He was with a rich man in His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was there any deceit in His mouth.But the Lord desired To crush Him, causing Him grief; If He renders Himself as a guilt offering, He will see His offspring, He will prolong His days, And the good pleasure of the Lord will prosper in His hand.As a result of the anguish of His soul, He will see it and be satisfied; By His knowledge the Righteous One, My Servant, will justify the many, For He will bear their wrongdoings.Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, And He will divide the plunder with the strong, Because He poured out His life unto death, And was counted with wrongdoers; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, And interceded for the wrongdoers.

I gave My back to those who strike Me, And My cheeks to those who pull out My beard; I did not hide My face from insults and spitting.

And Herod, together with his soldiers, treated Him with contempt and mocked Him, dressing Him in a brightly shining robe, and sent Him back to Pilate.

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel and its Holy One, Says to the despised One, To the One abhorred by the nation, To the Servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and arise, Princes will also bow down, Because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”

Just as many were appalled at you, My people, So His appearance was marred beyond that of a man, And His form beyond the sons of mankind.

And he will turn many of the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God.And it is he who will go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers back to their children, and the disobedient to the attitude of the righteous, to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.”

“ Awake, sword, against My Shepherd, And against the Man, My Associate,” Declares the Lord of armies.“ Strike the Shepherd and the sheep will be scattered; And I will turn My hand against the little ones.

Save me, God, For the waters have threatened my life.I have sunk in deep mud, and there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and a flood overflows me.I am weary with my crying; my throat is parched; My eyes fail while I wait for my God.Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; Those who would destroy me are powerful, those who oppose me with lies; What I did not steal, I then have to restore.God, You know my foolishness, And my guilt is not hidden from You.May those who wait for You not be ashamed because of me, Lord God of armies; May those who seek You not be dishonored because of me, God of Israel,Because for Your sake I have endured disgrace; Dishonor has covered my face.I have become estranged from my brothers, And a stranger to my mother’s sons.For zeal for Your house has consumed me, And the taunts of those who taunt You have fallen on me.When I wept in my soul with fasting, It became my disgrace.When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a proverb to them.Those who sit in the gate talk about me, And songs of mockery by those habitually drunk are about me.But as for me, my prayer is to You, Lord, at an acceptable time; God, in the greatness of Your mercy, Answer me with Your saving truth.Rescue me from the mud and do not let me sink; May I be rescued from those who hate me, and from the depths of water.May the flood of water not overflow me Nor the deep swallow me up, Nor the pit close its mouth on me.Answer me, Lord, for Your mercy is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,And do not hide Your face from Your servant, For I am in distress; answer me quickly.Come near to my soul and redeem it; Ransom me because of my enemies!You know my disgrace, my shame, and my dishonor; All my enemies are known to You.Disgrace has broken my heart, and I am so sick. And I waited for sympathy, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.They also gave me a bitter herb in my food, And for my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.May their table before them become a snare; And when they are at peace, may it become a trap.May their eyes grow dim so that they cannot see, And make their hips shake continually.Pour out Your indignation on them, And may Your burning anger overtake them.May their camp be desolated; May there be none living in their tents.For they have persecuted him whom You Yourself struck, And they tell of the pain of those whom You have wounded.Add guilt to their guilt, And may they not come into Your righteousness.May they be wiped out of the book of life, And may they not be recorded with the righteous.But I am afflicted and in pain; May Your salvation, God, set me safely on high.I will praise the name of God with song, And exalt Him with thanksgiving.And it will please the Lord better than an ox Or bull with horns and hoofs.The humble have seen it and are glad; You who seek God, let your heart revive.For the Lord hears the needy, And does not despise those of His who are prisoners.Heaven and earth shall praise Him, The seas and everything that moves in them.For God will save Zion and build the cities of Judah, So that they may live there and possess it.The descendants of His servants will inherit it, And those who love His name will live in it.

He will turn the hearts of the fathers back to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and strike the land with complete destruction.”

The voice of one calling out,“ Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; Make straight in the desert a highway for our God.Let every valley be lifted up, And every mountain and hill be made low; And let the uneven ground become a plain, And the rugged terrain a broad valley;Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, And all flesh will see it together; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”

Now in those days John the Baptist* came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,“ Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said,“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”Now John himself had a garment of camel’s hair and a leather belt around his waist; and his food was locusts and wild honey.At that time Jerusalem was going out to him, and all Judea and all the region around the Jordan;and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, as they confessed their sins.But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for baptism, he said to them,“ You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?Therefore produce fruit consistent with repentance;and do not assume that you can say to yourselves,‘ We have Abraham as our father’; for I tell you that God is able, from these stones, to raise up children for Abraham.And the axe is already laid at the root of the trees; therefore, every tree that does not bear good fruit is being cut down and thrown into the fire.“ As for me, I baptize you with water for repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, and I am not fit to remove His sandals; He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me? Far from my help are the words of my groaning.My God, I cry out by day, but You do not answer; And by night, but I have no rest.Yet You are holy, You who are enthroned upon the praises of Israel.In You our fathers trusted; They trusted and You rescued them.To You they cried out and they fled to safety; In You they trusted and were not disappointed.But I am a worm and not a person, A disgrace of mankind and despised by the people.All who see me deride me; They sneer, they shake their heads, saying,“ Turn him over to the Lord; let Him save him; Let Him rescue him, because He delights in him.”Yet You are He who brought me forth from the womb; You made me trust when upon my mother’s breasts.I was cast upon You from birth; You have been my God from my mother’s womb.Do not be far from me, for trouble is near; For there is no one to help.Many bulls have surrounded me; Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled me.They open their mouths wide at me, As a ravening and roaring lion.I am poured out like water, And all my bones are out of joint; My heart is like wax; It is melted within me.My strength is dried up like a piece of pottery, And my tongue clings to my jaws; And You lay me in the dust of death.For dogs have surrounded me; A band of evildoers has encompassed me; They pierced my hands and my feet.I can count all my bones. They look, they stare at me;They divide my garments among them, And they cast lots for my clothing.But You, Lord, do not be far away; You who are my help, hurry to my assistance.Save my soul from the sword, My only life from the power of the dog.Save me from the lion’s mouth; From the horns of the wild oxen You answer me.I will proclaim Your name to my brothers; In the midst of the assembly I will praise You.You who fear the Lord, praise Him; All you descendants of Jacob, glorify Him, And stand in awe of Him, all you descendants of Israel.For He has not despised nor scorned the suffering of the afflicted; Nor has He hidden His face from him; But when he cried to Him for help, He heard.From You comes my praise in the great assembly; I shall pay my vows before those who fear Him.The afflicted will eat and be satisfied; Those who seek Him will praise the Lord. May your heart live forever!All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord, And all the families of the nations will worship before You.For the kingdom is the Lord’s And He rules over the nations.All the prosperous of the earth will eat and worship, All those who go down to the dust will kneel before Him, Even he who cannot keep his soul alive.A posterity will serve Him; It will be told of the Lord to the coming generation.They will come and will declare His righteousness To a people who will be born, that He has performed it.

The Son of Man is going away just as it is written about Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born.”

And you, child, also will be called the prophet of the Most High; For you will go on before the Lord to prepare His ways;

“ Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city, to finish the wrongdoing, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for guilt, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy, and to anoint the Most Holy Place.So you are to know and understand that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, until Messiah the Prince, there will be seven weeks and sixty two weeks; it will be built again, with streets and moat, even in times of distress.Then after the sixty two weeks, the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing, and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

but emptied Himself by taking the form of a bond servant and being born in the likeness of men.And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death: death on a cross.

One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying,“ Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!”

just as it is written in Isaiah the prophet:“ Behold, I am sending My messenger before You, Who will prepare Your way;The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!’ ”John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.And all the country of Judea was going out to him, and all the people of Jerusalem; and they were being baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.John was clothed with camel’s hair and wore a leather belt around his waist, and his diet was locusts and wild honey.And he was preaching, saying,“ After me One is coming who is mightier than I, and I am not fit to bend down and untie the straps of His sandals.I baptized you with water; but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

From that time Jesus began to point out to His disciples that it was necessary for Him to go to Jerusalem and to suffer many things from the elders, chief priests, and scribes, and to be killed, and to be raised up on the third day.

A man came, one sent from God, and his name was John.He came as a witness, to testify about the Light, so that all might believe through him.He was not the Light, but he came to testify about the Light.This was the true Light that, coming into the world, enlightens every person.He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, and yet the world did not know Him.He came to His own, and His own people did not accept Him.But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name,who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of a man, but of God.And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us; and we saw His glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.John* testified about Him and called out, saying,“ This was He of whom I said,‘ He who is coming after me has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’ ”For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.No one has seen God at any time; God the only Son, who is in the arms of the Father, He has explained Him.This is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites to him from Jerusalem to ask him,“ Who are you?”And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed:“ I am not the Christ.”And so they asked him,“ What then? Are you Elijah?” And he* said,“ I am not.”“ Are you the Prophet?” And he answered,“ No.”Then they said to him,“ Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”He said,“ I am the voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Make the way of the Lord straight,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”And the messengers had been sent from the Pharisees.They asked him, and said to him,“ Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”John answered them, saying,“ I baptize in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.It is He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy even to untie the strap of His sandal.”These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing people.The next day he* saw Jesus coming to him, and* said,“ Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!This is He in behalf of whom I said,‘ After me is coming a Man who has proved to be my superior, because He existed before me.’And I did not recognize Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing in water.”And John testified, saying,“ I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him.And I did not recognize Him, but He who sent me to baptize in water said to me,‘ He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, this is the One who baptizes in the Holy Spirit.’And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is the Son of God.”Again the next day John was standing with two of his disciples,and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and* said,“ Behold, the Lamb of God!”

Arise, God, and plead Your own cause; Remember how the foolish person taunts You all day long.

Now while in prison, John heard about the works of Christ, and he sent word by his disciples,and said to Him,“ Are You the Coming One, or are we to look for someone else?”Jesus answered and said to them,“ Go and report to John what you hear and see:those who are blind receive sight and those who limp walk, those with leprosy are cleansed and those who are deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.And blessed is any person who does not take offense at Me.”As these disciples of John were going away, Jesus began speaking to the crowds about John:“ What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?But what did you go out to see? A man dressed in soft clothing? Those who wear soft clothing are in kings’ palaces!But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and one who is more than a prophet.This is the one about whom it is written:‘ Behold, I am sending My messenger ahead of You, Who will prepare Your way before You.’Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been treated violently, and violent men take it by force.For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John.And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.The one who has ears to hear, let him hear.“ But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call out to the other children,and say,‘ We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not mourn.’For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say,‘ He has a demon!’

in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zechariah, in the wilderness.And he came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins;as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet:“ The voice of one calling out in the wilderness,‘ Prepare the way of the Lord, Make His paths straight!Every ravine will be filled, And every mountain and hill will be lowered; The crooked will become straight, And the rough roads smooth;And all flesh will see the salvation of God!’ ”

John replied,“ A person can receive not even one thing unless it has been given to him from heaven.You yourselves are my witnesses that I said,‘ I am not the Christ,’ but,‘ I have been sent ahead of Him.’He who has the bride is the groom; but the friend of the groom, who stands and listens to him, rejoices greatly because of the groom’s voice. So this joy of mine has been made full.He must increase, but I must decrease.

Then the Lord said to me,“ Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them.” So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the Lord.
