You are distinguished, but we are dishonored!Up to the present hour we are both hungry and thirsty; we are poorly clothed, roughly treated, homeless;we labor, working with our own hands. When we are reviled, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;when we are slandered, we respond graciously. Even now, we are like the scum of the earth, like everyone’s garbage.

Then Jesus said to his disciples,“ If anyone wants to follow after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you, and I am completing in my flesh what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for his body, that is, the church.

“ Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because I tell you, many will try to enter and won’t be able

Therefore, since Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same understanding— because the one who suffers in the flesh is finished with sin—

“ And if your hand causes you to fall away, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than to have two hands and go to hell, the unquenchable fire.

and if children, also heirs— heirs of God and coheirs with Christ— if indeed we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Looking at him, Jesus loved him and said to him,“ You lack one thing: Go, sell all you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Therefore, put to death what belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desire, and greed, which is idolatry.

When Jesus heard this, he told him,“ You still lack one thing: Sell all you have and distribute it to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

But everything that was a gain to me, I have considered to be a loss because of Christ.

“ Lord,” Simon Peter said to him,“ where are you going?” Jesus answered,“ Where I am going you cannot follow me now, but you will follow later.”“ Lord,” Peter asked,“ why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

Instead, rejoice as you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may also rejoice with great joy when his glory is revealed.

He said this to indicate by what kind of death Peter would glorify God. After saying this, he told him,“ Follow me.”So Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and asked,“ Lord, who is the one that’s going to betray you?”

since I know that I will soon lay aside my tent, as our Lord Jesus Christ has indeed made clear to me.

If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of the parts of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away.
