They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.”

他們又問：「那麼你是誰呢？是以利亞嗎？」他說：「我不是。」「是那位先知嗎？」他回答：「不是。」

他們問耶穌，說：「經文士們為什麼說以利亞必須先來呢？」耶穌告訴他們：「以利亞確實要先來恢復萬事。至於人子，經上怎麼還記載說，他必然受很多苦害，並且被人拒絕呢？不過我告訴你們：其實以利亞已經來了，人們卻任意對待他，正如經上指著他所寫的。」

看哪！在耶和華大而可畏的日子來到之前，我必派遣先知以利亞到你們那裡去。

就對他的臣僕說：「這個人是施洗者約翰從死人中復活了！所以這些能力在他裡面做工。」

分封王希律聽說了所發生的這一切，就感到困惑，因為有些人說：「約翰從死人中復活了。」也有些人說：「以利亞顯現了。」還有些人說：「古時候的一位先知復活了。」但希律卻說：「我已經砍了約翰的頭，而這個人又是誰呢？我竟聽到關於他這樣的事！」於是希律就想要見他。

他們回答說：「有的說是施洗者約翰，有的說是以利亞，另有的說是耶利米或是先知中的一位。」

耶穌的名聲被傳揚出去，希律王也聽見了。有些人說：「施洗者約翰從死人中復活了，所以這些能力在他裡面做工。」也有些人說：「他是以利亞。」還有些人說：「他是個先知，像古代先知中的一位。」但希律聽了卻說：「是被我砍了頭的約翰！這個人復活了！」
