Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you collected?Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you collected?Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you,‘ Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread?”Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

When he left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose him fiercely and to cross-examine him about many things;they were lying in wait for him to trap him in something he said.

When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they came together.And one of them, an expert in the law, asked a question to test him:

He also said to the crowds,“ When you see a cloud rising in the west, right away you say,‘ A storm is coming,’ and so it does.And when the south wind is blowing, you say,‘ It’s going to be hot,’ and it is.Hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky, but why don’t you know how to interpret this present time?“ Why don’t you judge for yourselves what is right?

Then an expert in the law stood up to test him, saying,“ Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?”

Then the Pharisees went and plotted how to trap him by what he said.

Then Peter said to her,“ Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.”

For the Jews ask for signs and the Greeks seek wisdom,but we preach Christ crucified, a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles.

The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered around him.They observed that some of his disciples were eating bread with unclean— that is, unwashed— hands.

“ What sign, then, are you going to do so that we may see and believe you?” they asked.“ What are you going to perform?

So the people complained to Moses,“ Give us water to drink.”“ Why are you complaining to me?” Moses replied to them.“ Why are you testing the LORD?”

When the scribes who were Pharisees saw that he was eating with sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples,“ Why does he eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Jesus told him,“ Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

That same day some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came up to him and questioned him:

But knowing their hypocrisy, he said to them,“ Why are you testing me? Bring me a denarius to look at.”

Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in him?

When he entered the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him as he was teaching and said,“ By what authority are you doing these things? Who gave you this authority?”

Some Pharisees approached him to test him. They asked,“ Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife on any grounds?”
