So the Pharisees and teachers of religious law asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples follow our age old tradition? They eat without first performing the hand washing ceremony.”

于是，法利赛人和经文士就问耶稣：“你的门徒们为什么不照着古人的传统行事，用不洁净的手吃饭呢？”

法利賽人和文士問他說：「你的門徒為甚麼不照古人的遺傳，用俗手吃飯呢？」

法利賽人和文士問他說：「你的門徒為甚麼不照古人的傳統，竟然用不潔淨的手吃飯呢？」

這些法利賽人和經學士就詰問耶穌說：『你的門徒為甚麼不照前人的傳統規矩行，卻用俗污的手喫飯呢？』

於是，法利賽人和經文士就問耶穌：「你的門徒們為什麼不照著古人的傳統行事，用不潔淨的手吃飯呢？」

乃問耶穌曰、爾門徒不依古人遺傳、以俗手而食、何也、

於是、𠵽唎㘔人、士子、問耶穌曰、爾門徒不遵古人遺傳、手未盥而食、何也、

於是法利賽人及經士問耶穌曰、爾門徒何不遵古人遺傳、手未盥即食乎、

故法利塞人及經生質耶穌曰：『爾徒不遵古人遺規、而以俗手取食何也？』

So the Pharisees and teachers of the law asked Jesus,“ Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders instead of eating their food with defiled hands?”

So the Pharisees and the teachers of the law questioned Jesus.“ Why don’t your disciples live by what the elders teach?” they asked.“ Why do they eat their food with‘ unclean’ hands?”

And the Pharisees and the scribes asked him,“ Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?”

So the Pharisees and the scribes asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders, instead of eating bread with ceremonially unclean hands?”

And the Pharisees and the scribes* asked Him,“ Why do Your disciples not walk in accordance with the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unholy hands?”

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked Him,“ Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashed hands?”

And the Pharisees and the scribes ask him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with defiled hands?

Then the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him,“ Why don’t Your disciples live according to the tradition of the elders, instead of eating bread with ritually unclean hands?”

Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?

The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked him,“ Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with unwashed hands?”

The Pharisees and the scribes asked him,“ Why don’t your disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with unwashed hands?”

They noticed that some of his disciples failed to follow the Jewish ritual of hand washing before eating.( The Jews, especially the Pharisees, do not eat until they have poured water over their cupped hands, as required by their ancient traditions.

“ Why do your disciples disobey our age old tradition? For they ignore our tradition of ceremonial hand washing before they eat.”

And now, dear brothers and sisters, we give you this command in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ: Stay away from all believers who live idle lives and don’t follow the tradition they received from us.

But the Jewish believers here in Jerusalem have been told that you are teaching all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn their backs on the laws of Moses. They’ve heard that you teach them not to circumcise their children or follow other Jewish customs.

Go with them to the Temple and join them in the purification ceremony, paying for them to have their heads ritually shaved. Then everyone will know that the rumors are all false and that you yourself observe the Jewish laws.

I was far ahead of my fellow Jews in my zeal for the traditions of my ancestors.

Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business.

But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples,“ Why does he eat with such scum?”When Jesus heard this, he told them,“ Healthy people don’t need a doctor— sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”Once when John’s disciples and the Pharisees were fasting, some people came to Jesus and asked,“ Why don’t your disciples fast like John’s disciples and the Pharisees do?”

And Abraham is also the spiritual father of those who have been circumcised, but only if they have the same kind of faith Abraham had before he was circumcised.
