這就藉着你們所傳授的、你們的傳統規矩、以取消上帝的話了！你們還作了許多這樣相類的事呢。」

你們要謹慎，恐怕有人藉着虛空而誘惑人的「哲學」、照人的傳統教訓、根據世界所信的星質之靈，而不根據基督、把你們擄了去做奴僕。

因為知道你們得贖放、脫離你們祖傳徒勞無效的生活、不是用能朽壞的東西、銀子或金子，

他們徒然敬拜我，將人的誡律當教條教訓人」。他們撇棄了上帝的誡命，執守着人的傳統規矩。』他又對他們說：『你們很聰明地廢棄了上帝的誡命，為要遵守自己的傳統規矩！因為摩西說過：「要孝敬你的父親和母親」；又說：「誹謗父親或母親的、必須死」；

「不可摸！不可嘗！不可觸！」的規例，（而規例中所指的又都是以沿用而至於敗壞的東西）隨着人的誡律和教條呢？這種規例、於牽強的崇拜和卑抑自己以及身體之刻苦、徒有智慧之名，在克制肉體之放縱上實毫無價值的。

『你的門徒為甚麼違犯古人的傳統規矩？喫飯時候不洗手呀！』耶穌回答他們說：『你們呢、你們為甚麼因了你們的傳統規矩而違犯上帝的誡命呢？上帝命令說：「要孝敬父親和母親」；又說：『誹謗父親或母親的，必須死』；你們倒說：『無論何人對父親或母親說：「你可由我得益之物、已經用做獻神禮物了」；這麼一說，他便可以不必敬奉父親或母親！那就是你們竟因了你們的傳統規矩而取消上帝的話了！

這些法利賽人和經學士就詰問耶穌說：『你的門徒為甚麼不照前人的傳統規矩行，卻用俗污的手喫飯呢？』
