Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Everything is pure to those whose hearts are pure. But nothing is pure to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, because their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Peter told them,“ You know it is against our laws for a Jewish man to enter a Gentile home like this or to associate with you. But God has shown me that I should no longer think of anyone as impure or unclean.

For the Kingdom of God is not a matter of what we eat or drink, but of living a life of goodness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

“ Don’t you understand yet?” Jesus asked.

“ No, Lord,” Peter declared.“ I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have declared impure and unclean.”But the voice spoke again:“ Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.”The same vision was repeated three times. Then the sheet was suddenly pulled up to heaven.

For that old system deals only with food and drink and various cleansing ceremonies— physical regulations that were in effect only until a better system could be established.

Instead, we should write and tell them to abstain from eating food offered to idols, from sexual immorality, from eating the meat of strangled animals, and from consuming blood.For these laws of Moses have been preached in Jewish synagogues in every city on every Sabbath for many generations.”

“‘ No, Lord,’ I replied.‘ I have never eaten anything that our Jewish laws have declared impure or unclean.’“ But the voice from heaven spoke again:‘ Do not call something unclean if God has made it clean.’This happened three times before the sheet and all it contained was pulled back up to heaven.

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say.

So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.

They will say it is wrong to be married and wrong to eat certain foods. But God created those foods to be eaten with thanks by faithful people who know the truth.Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.For we know it is made acceptable by the word of God and prayer.

“ Don’t you understand either?” he asked.“ Can’t you see that the food you put into your body cannot defile you?Food doesn’t go into your heart, but only passes through the stomach and then goes into the sewer.”( By saying this, he declared that every kind of food is acceptable in God’s eyes.)And then he added,“ It is what comes from inside that defiles you.For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder,adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness.All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”

So you may eat any meat that is sold in the marketplace without raising questions of conscience.
