And do you not remember?When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did you take up?” They said to Him,“ Twelve.”“ Also, when I broke the seven for the four thousand, how many large baskets full of fragments did you take up?” And they said,“ Seven.”So He said to them,“ How is it you do not understand?”

Later He appeared to the eleven as they sat at the table; and He rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

O Lord, why have You made us stray from Your ways, And hardened our heart from Your fear? Return for Your servants’ sake, The tribes of Your inheritance.

And when He had looked around at them with anger, being grieved by the hardness of their hearts, He said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored as whole as the other.

Then He said to them,“ O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!

So He said to them,“ Are you thus without understanding also? Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him,

Do you not yet understand, or remember the five loaves of the five thousand and how many baskets you took up?Nor the seven loaves of the four thousand and how many large baskets you took up?How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?— but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.
