Others said,“ He is Elijah.” And still others claimed,“ He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of long ago.”

眾對曰：『斯乃加利利納匝肋人先知耶穌也。』

曰：『有謂施洗如望、有謂伊理靄、有謂古先知之一、』

對曰：『或曰施洗如望、或曰依理藹、或曰日勒米亞、或曰先知之一耳。』

對曰：『施洗如望也或則以為伊理藹也、亦有謂古先知再世者。』

或謂伊理藹顯現、亦有謂古先知再世者；

曰：『然則爾為伊理藹乎？』曰：『非也。』曰：『子殆先知乎？』曰：『否。』

以伊理藹之風度神力為主前驅、必使為父者之心歸向兒女、而頑強之子服膺長者之智、為主作育心悅誠服之新民。』

故又詢盲者曰：『汝謂啟汝目者、為何如人耶？』曰：『先知也。』

爰又問曰：『爾既非基督、又非伊理藹、亦非先知、則胡為授洗耶？』

徒問曰：『經生輩謂依理藹須先至、何也？』耶穌對曰：『依理藹固須先至、復興萬事；

眾皆驚駭、歸榮天主曰：『偉大先知、崛起吾中！』又曰：『天主實眷下民！』

法利塞見而自思曰：「斯人苟為先知、當知撫之者為誰、寧不識此女乃風塵中人乎？」

人見所行聖跡、乃曰：『斯真將臨之先知！』

旁立者聞之、以為呼伊理藹也。一人趨前、以醯漬海絨、束諸葦端。使嘗之、且曰：「吾儕且稍俟、以觀伊理藹果來解其懸否。」

摩西有言、「上主必自爾中、立一先知、正如立吾；凡彼所示、爾當信從不信、則必滅自人群也。」

答曰：『伊理靄固需先來振興萬事、然經不亦言人子應如何備嘗苦辱乎？然予語汝、伊理靄實已蒞至、而世人任意待之、適如經之所載也。』

眾聆斯言多曰：『斯真先知！』
