耶穌聲名洋溢、希祿聞人言具此異能、必施洗如望復活矣。或曰：『伊理靄也。』或曰：『先知、猶古先知之一耳。』希祿聞之、則曰：『是必吾所斬之如望復活矣。』先是希祿以娶弟斐立妻黑落娣故、囚如望於獄。蓋如望嘗諫曰：『納弟婦、非禮也。』黑落娣因是懷恨、欲害之而弗得、以希祿明知其義且聖、畏而庇之、所言多從、亦樂聞其教。會希祿誕辰、宴群臣諸將、及加利利紳宦。黑落娣女起舞為壽、合席歡然。王謂女曰：『任汝所求、必予汝。』且誓曰：『雖平分國土、吾亦弗吝。』女退詢母將何求、母曰：『施洗者如望之首。』乃返、請於王曰：『願以施洗者如望之首、置盤中見賜。』王戚戚然有難色、惟百僚咸列、不欲自食其誓、遂遣使斬如望於獄、以首置盤賜女、女以授母、如望弟子領屍葬之。

詎知其人出而宣揚其事、致耶穌不復得公然入城、惟逗留曠郊。而各方之人、趨之若鶩。

蓋主之聖道已由爾處向外發揚、不僅在馬其頓亞該亞而已、即在其他各地、爾等之篤信天主，已風傳遐邇、已不須吾儕之自為鼓吹矣。

羅馬皇諦伯略在位之十五年、般雀比辣多方撫猶太；希祿治加利利；厥弟斐理伯治意都勒與達各尼利撒尼治亞比里納；

既悉其屬希祿管轄、乃移解之、當時希祿適在耶路撒冷也。希祿既見耶穌、不勝欣悅。蓋久耳其名、渴欲一見其人、且冀一睹其靈跡、因多方詰之、而耶穌嘿然不答一詞。司祭諸長及經生旁立控之不休、希祿及其侍衛、則鄙而嘲之、披以采服、解回比辣多。希祿與比辣多素來有隙、是日乃言歸於好矣。

曰：『有謂施洗如望、有謂伊理靄、有謂古先知之一、』

是日、法利塞數人來告曰：『其速離此、希祿欲殺汝也。』

於是耶穌令名、遂洋溢乎加利利四境。

詎二人出而宣揚其名於通境。

時分封王希祿風聞耶穌所行、謂侍臣曰：『是必施洗如望自死中復活矣、故能顯斯神能。』先是、希祿為弟婦黑落娣事、執如望、繫以縲絏、下之獄。如望嘗諫王曰：『爾納此婦、義所不容。』王欲殺之、而懾於民情、有所不敢；以民眾莫不認如望、為先知也。值希祿誕辰、黑落娣之女當席起舞為壽、希祿喜、誓以所求必賜。女為母所唆、求曰：『願以施洗如望之首、置諸盤中見賜。』王愀然不樂、然礙於所誓、及在席諸賓、乃准其所請、飭人斬如望於獄、置首盤中以授女、女以奉母。如望弟子收屍葬之、來告耶穌。
