But if you will look to God, and make your supplication to the Almighty,if you become pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself for you, and will restore your righteous abode.

I asked,“ Will the Lord reject me forever? Will he never again show me his favor?Has his loyal love disappeared forever? Has his promise failed forever?Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has his anger stifled his compassion?”Then I said,“ I am sickened by the thought that the sovereign One might become inactive.

At noon Elijah mocked them,“ Yell louder! After all, he is a god; he may be deep in thought, or perhaps he stepped out for a moment or has taken a trip. Perhaps he is sleeping and needs to be awakened.”So they yelled louder and, in accordance with their prescribed ritual, mutilated themselves with swords and spears until their bodies were covered with blood.Throughout the afternoon they were in an ecstatic frenzy, but there was no sound, no answer, and no response.

Why, LORD, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed; the oppressed are trapped by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.

So they came and woke him up saying,“ Lord, save us! We are about to die!”

Why do you say, Jacob, Why do you say, Israel,“ The LORD is not aware of what is happening to me, My God is not concerned with my vindication”?Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is an eternal God, the creator of the whole earth. He does not get tired or weary; there is no limit to his wisdom.

“ Zion said,‘ The LORD has abandoned me, the sovereign master has forgotten me.’Can a woman forget her baby who nurses at her breast? Can she withhold compassion from the child she has borne? Even if mothers were to forget, I could never forget you!Look, I have inscribed your name on my palms; your walls are constantly before me.

Look down from heaven and take notice, from your holy, majestic palace! Where are your zeal and power? Do not hold back your tender compassion!

Wake up! Wake up! Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of the LORD! Wake up as in former times, as in antiquity! Did you not smash the Proud One? Did you not wound the sea monster?Did you not dry up the sea, the waters of the great deep? Did you not make a path through the depths of the sea, so those delivered from bondage could cross over?

Rouse yourself! Why do you sleep, O Lord? Wake up! Do not reject us forever!Why do you look the other way, and ignore the way we are oppressed and mistreated?
