那些渴望发财的人却陷入诱惑、网罗和许多愚蠢有害的欲望中，以致落入败坏和灭亡中。贪财是万恶之根，有人因为贪财就离弃了信仰，结果饱尝种种锥心般的痛苦。

你要劝诫那些今世富足的人不要高傲，也不要冀望于靠不住的钱财，要信靠将万物厚赐给我们享用的上帝。

不要爱世界和世上的事，因为人若爱世界，就不会再有爱父的心了。凡属世界的，如肉体的私欲、眼目的私欲和今生的骄傲都不是从父那里来的，而是从世界来的。这世界和其中一切的私欲都要过去，但遵守上帝旨意的人永远长存。

可以在今后的生活中不再随从人的私欲，只服从上帝的旨意。你们从前长期沉溺于异教徒的嗜好——淫乱、纵欲、醉酒、狂欢、宴乐和可憎的偶像崇拜。

你们应该一无挂虑，凡事要借着祷告和祈求，以感恩的心将你们的需要告诉上帝。

事后，耶稣对门徒说：“我实在告诉你们，有钱人进天国很困难。

你们不要为吃什么喝什么忧虑，因为这些都是外族人的追求，你们的天父知道你们需要这些。

“你们要小心，不要被宴乐、醉酒和人生的挂虑所拖累，免得那日子像网罗般突然临到你们，

属于我的枝子如果不结果子，祂就把它剪掉；如果结果子，祂便修剪它，让它结更多的果子。

我不遗余力地料理葡萄园，希望得到好葡萄，为什么得到的只是坏葡萄呢？

他松土，清除石头，栽种了上好的葡萄，在园中建了一座瞭望塔，凿了榨酒池。他期望收获好葡萄，得到的却是坏葡萄。

贪爱钱财的，金银不能使他满足；贪图富裕的，再多的利益也不能叫他称心。这也是虚空！财富增加，消费的人也增加，这对财富的主人有什么益处呢？只是过眼烟云罢了！劳力的人不管吃多吃少，总是睡得香甜；富人的万贯家财却害得他不能成眠。我看到日光之下有一件可悲的事：有人积攒财宝，反而害了自己。经营不善，便财富尽失，什么也不能留给儿子。人怎样从母腹空空而来，也必照样空空而去；劳碌一生，什么也不能带走。这是多么可悲啊！人怎样来，也要怎样去，为风劳碌有什么益处呢？

于是心里盘算，‘我储藏农产的地方不够了，怎么办呢？’于是他说，‘不如把原有的仓库拆掉，建几座更大的，好储藏我所有的粮食和财物！那时，我就可以对自己说，“你积存这么多财产，一生享用不尽，现在大可高枕无忧、尽情地吃喝玩乐吧！”’但上帝对他说，‘无知的人啊，今晚就要取走你的命！你所预备的一切留给谁享用呢？’”耶稣说：“这就是那些只顾为自己积财、在上帝面前却不富足之人的写照。”

耶稣对她说：“玛大，玛大，你为太多事情忧虑烦恼。

有一个人孤孤单单，没有儿子也没有兄弟，却终身劳碌。他虽然家道丰裕，仍不满足，从未想过“我不停地劳碌，放弃一切享受，究竟是为了谁？”这也是虚空，是一种悲哀。

钱财眨眼之间消逝无踪，它必长出翅膀如鹰飞去。

如果充分具备了这些品德，你们对我们主耶稣基督的认识就不会停滞不前，毫无收获。

可是，他们都找借口推辞。头一个说，‘我刚买了一块田，必须去看一看，请恕我不能参加。’另一个说，‘我新买了五对牛，要去试一试，请恕我不能参加。’还有一个说，‘我刚结了婚，所以不能去。’

这些人在你们的爱宴中是败类。他们肆无忌惮地吃喝，是只顾喂养自己的牧人；是没有雨的云，随风飘荡；是深秋不结果子的树，被连根拔起，彻底枯死。

现在斧头已经放在树根上了，不结好果子的树都要被砍下，丢在火里。

因为底马贪爱世界，离弃我跑到帖撒罗尼迦去了。革勒士去了加拉太，提多去了挞马太，

一块经常受到雨水滋润的田地若为耕种的人长出庄稼来，就蒙上帝赐福；若长出来的尽是荆棘和蒺藜，就毫无价值，它会面临被咒诅的危险，最后必遭焚烧。
