It was the Lord’s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast.

Instantly, the man was healed! He rolled up his sleeping mat and began walking! But this miracle happened on the Sabbath,so the Jewish leaders objected. They said to the man who was cured,“ You can’t work on the Sabbath! The law doesn’t allow you to carry that sleeping mat!”But he replied,“ The man who healed me told me,‘ Pick up your mat and walk.’”

Some of the Pharisees said,“ This man Jesus is not from God, for he is working on the Sabbath.” Others said,“ But how could an ordinary sinner do such miraculous signs?” So there was a deep division of opinion among them.

But the Lord replied,“ You hypocrites! Each of you works on the Sabbath day! Don’t you untie your ox or your donkey from its stall on the Sabbath and lead it out for water?This dear woman, a daughter of Abraham, has been held in bondage by Satan for eighteen years. Isn’t it right that she be released, even on the Sabbath?”

And Jesus added,“ The Son of Man is Lord, even over the Sabbath.”

Then he turned to his critics and asked,“ Does the law permit good deeds on the Sabbath, or is it a day for doing evil? Is this a day to save life or to destroy it?” But they wouldn’t answer him.

But Jesus replied,“ My Father is always working, and so am I.”

God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church.

But while I am here in the world, I am the light of the world.”Then he spit on the ground, made mud with the saliva, and spread the mud over the blind man’s eyes.He told him,“ Go wash yourself in the pool of Siloam”( Siloam means“ sent”). So the man went and washed and came back seeing!His neighbors and others who knew him as a blind beggar asked each other,“ Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?”Some said he was, and others said,“ No, he just looks like him!” But the beggar kept saying,“ Yes, I am the same one!”They asked,“ Who healed you? What happened?”He told them,“ The man they call Jesus made mud and spread it over my eyes and told me,‘ Go to the pool of Siloam and wash yourself.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see!”
