我思想自己走過的路，就決定歸向你的法度。我毫不遲疑地遵守你的命令。

彼得又賭咒又發誓，說：「我不認識那個人！」就在這時候，雞叫了。彼得想起耶穌說的話：「在雞叫以前，你會三次不認我。」他就跑出去，失聲痛哭。

那時，你們便會想起自己邪惡的行徑，並因自己的罪惡和可憎行為而厭惡自己。

僥倖逃到山上的，都必像谷中哀鳴的鴿子，為自己的罪惡哭泣。

大衛統計了人口以後，內心不安，就對耶和華說：「我做這事犯了大罪。耶和華啊，求你赦免僕人的罪，我做了極其愚昧的事。」

最後，他醒悟過來，心想，『在我父親家裡，連僱工的口糧都綽綽有餘，我現在卻要在這裡餓死嗎？我要動身回到我父親身邊，對他說，父親，我得罪了天，也得罪了你，今後，我再也不配作你的兒子，請把我當作僱工看待吧。』

他就到外面，痛哭起來。

耶穌說：「我實在告訴你，今夜雞叫以前，你會三次不認我。」

我聽見以法蓮在為自己悲歎，『我們就像未經馴服的牛犢，你管教我們，使我們順服，求你使我們回到你身邊，重新復興，因為你是我們的上帝耶和華。我們曾經離開你，但我們後悔了；我們醒悟之後捶胸頓足，痛悔不已，因早年的所作所為而羞愧難當。』」耶和華說：「以法蓮不是我的愛子嗎？他不是我喜悅的孩子嗎？我雖然常常責備他，但仍然惦記著他。我深深地想念他，我必憐憫他。

彼得說：「你這個人，我不知道你在說什麼！」話才出口，雞就叫了。

合乎上帝心意的憂傷會帶來悔改，使人得到救恩，永不後悔，但世俗的憂傷只會帶來死亡。

我要赦免你所有的罪，那時你想起這事會羞愧難當，不敢再開口。這是主耶和華說的。』」
