天氣很冷，奴僕和差役生了一堆火，站著烤火取暖，彼得也跟他們站在一起烤火取暖。

那時，祭司長和民間的長老正聚集在大祭司該亞法的府裡，

那時西門·彼得仍然站著烤火，有人問他：「你不也是那人的門徒嗎？」彼得否認說：「我不是！」

西門·彼得和另一個門徒跟在耶穌後面。由於那門徒和大祭司認識，他就跟著耶穌來到大祭司的院子。彼得留在門外。後來，大祭司所認識的那個門徒出來對看門的女僕說了一聲，便把彼得也帶了進去。

祂心中極其悲痛，禱告更懇切，汗珠如血滴在地上。

彼得說：「即使所有人都背棄你，我也決不會背棄你！」耶穌說：「我實在告訴你，就在今天晚上雞叫兩次以前，你會三次不認我。」彼得鄭重地說：「就算要我跟你一起死，我也不會不認你。」其他門徒也都這樣說。

見彼得在烤火，打量了他一番，說：「你也是那個拿撒勒人耶穌的同夥。」「我不知道也不明白你在說什麼！」彼得一邊否認，一邊躲到外院去。那時，雞叫了。

以利亞聽見後，就用外袍蒙著臉出去站在洞口。那聲音問他：「以利亞，你在這裡做什麽？」

他進了一個山洞，在裡面過夜。耶和華就問他：「以利亞，你在這裡做什麽？」

彼得遠遠地跟著耶穌，一直跟到大祭司的院子裡。他坐在衛兵當中，想知道事情的結果。

你們要警醒禱告，免得陷入誘惑。你們的心靈雖然願意，肉體卻很軟弱。」

他們在庭院當中生起了火，圍坐取暖，彼得也坐在他們中間。有個婢女看見彼得坐在火堆邊，打量他一番後，說：「這人是與耶穌一夥的！」

有些希伯來人過了約旦河，逃到迦得和基列。但掃羅仍然留在吉甲，跟隨他的人都害怕得發抖。
