天气很冷，奴仆和差役生了一堆火，站着烤火取暖，彼得也跟他们站在一起烤火取暖。

那时，祭司长和民间的长老正聚集在大祭司该亚法的府里，

那时西门·彼得仍然站着烤火，有人问他：“你不也是那人的门徒吗？”彼得否认说：“我不是！”

西门·彼得和另一个门徒跟在耶稣后面。由于那门徒和大祭司认识，他就跟着耶稣来到大祭司的院子。彼得留在门外。后来，大祭司所认识的那个门徒出来对看门的女仆说了一声，便把彼得也带了进去。

祂心中极其悲痛，祷告更恳切，汗珠如血滴在地上。

彼得说：“即使所有人都背弃你，我也决不会背弃你！”耶稣说：“我实在告诉你，就在今天晚上鸡叫两次以前，你会三次不认我。”彼得郑重地说：“就算要我跟你一起死，我也不会不认你。”其他门徒也都这样说。

见彼得在烤火，打量了他一番，说：“你也是那个拿撒勒人耶稣的同伙。”“我不知道也不明白你在说什么！”彼得一边否认，一边躲到外院去。那时，鸡叫了。

以利亚听见后，就用外袍蒙着脸出去站在洞口。那声音问他：“以利亚，你在这里做什么？”

他进了一个山洞，在里面过夜。耶和华就问他：“以利亚，你在这里做什么？”

彼得远远地跟着耶稣，一直跟到大祭司的院子里。他坐在卫兵当中，想知道事情的结果。

你们要警醒祷告，免得陷入诱惑。你们的心灵虽然愿意，肉体却很软弱。”

他们在庭院当中生起了火，围坐取暖，彼得也坐在他们中间。有个婢女看见彼得坐在火堆边，打量他一番后，说：“这人是与耶稣一伙的！”

有些希伯来人过了约旦河，逃到迦得和基列。但扫罗仍然留在吉甲，跟随他的人都害怕得发抖。
