Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Simon,” he said to Peter,“ are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?

耶稣回到门徒们那里，看见他们睡着了，就对彼得说：“你们怎么就不能与我一同警醒一个小时呢？

他们在荣光中显现，谈论耶稣离世的事，就是他将要在耶路撒冷成就的事。彼得和他的同伴正在沉睡着。可是他们清醒过来时，看见了耶稣的荣光和同他站着的那两个人。

其实，你们应当仔细地思想耶稣如何忍受了罪人的顶撞，这样你们心里就不会因丧气而疲倦。

彼得对耶稣说：“即使所有的人被绊倒，我还是不会。”可是耶稣对他说：“我确实地告诉你：今天，就在今夜，鸡叫两遍以前，你会三次不认我。”彼得却坚决地说：“就算我必须与你同死，我也绝不会不认你。”所有的门徒也都这么说。

他又回来，看见他们在睡觉，因为他们的眼皮发沉，也不知道要回答耶稣什么。耶稣第三次回来，对他们说：“你们还在睡觉、休息吗？已经够了，时候到了！看哪，人子被交在罪人的手里了。

祷告完了，他起身到门徒那里，看见他们因为忧伤都睡着了，就对他们说：“你们为什么睡觉呢？起来祷告，免得陷入试探。”

后来新郎迟延不到，她们都打盹，睡着了。

由此可见，我们不要像其他人那样睡着了，而要警醒、谨慎。因为睡觉的人是在夜里睡，醉酒的人是在夜里醉。但我们既然属于白昼，就让我们谨慎，以信与爱做为护胸甲穿上，以救恩的盼望做为头盔戴上。

船长来到约拿那里，对他说：“你竟敢沉睡！起来，向你的神呼求！或许你的神会顾念我们，使我们不致灭亡。”
