農夫相語曰、此其嗣子、且來殺之、業歸我矣、

園夫相語曰、斯乃嗣子、盍來殺之、業必歸我、

詎園戶議曰：「是為其嗣、曷共殺之、其產歸吾矣。」

“ But the tenants said to one another,‘ This is the heir. Come, let’s kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’

“ But the renters said to each other,‘ This is the one who will receive all the owner’s property someday. Come, let’s kill him. Then everything will be ours.’

“ Didn’t we strictly order you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to bring this man’s blood on us!”

Because they knew He had said this parable against them, they were looking for a way to arrest Him, but they were afraid of the crowd. So they left Him and went away.

Many bulls surround me; strong ones of Bashan encircle me.They open their mouths against me— lions, mauling and roaring.I am poured out like water, and all my bones are disjointed; my heart is like wax, melting within me.My strength is dried up like baked clay; my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. You put me into the dust of death.

This is what the Lord, the Redeemer of Israel, his Holy One, says to one who is despised, to one abhorred by people, to a servant of rulers:“ Kings will see and stand up, and princes will bow down, because of the Lord, who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel— and He has chosen you.”

I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.

He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughter and like a sheep silent before her shearers, He did not open His mouth.He was taken away because of oppression and judgment; and who considered His fate? For He was cut off from the land of the living; He was struck because of my people’s rebellion.

Though He was delivered up according to God’s determined plan and foreknowledge, you used lawless people to nail Him to a cross and kill Him.

Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? They even killed those who announced beforehand the coming of the Righteous One, whose betrayers and murderers you have now become.

So the chief priests and the Pharisees convened the Sanhedrin and said,“ What are we going to do since this man does many signs?If we let Him continue in this way, everyone will believe in Him! Then the Romans will come and remove both our place and our nation.”One of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,“ You know nothing at all!You’re not considering that it is to your advantage that one man should die for the people rather than the whole nation perish.”

Then Herod, when he saw that he had been outwitted by the wise men, flew into a rage. He gave orders to massacre all the male children in and around Bethlehem who were two years old and under, in keeping with the time he had learned from the wise men.

When King Herod heard this, he was deeply disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.So he assembled all the chief priests and scribes of the people and asked them where the Messiah would be born.“ In Bethlehem of Judea,” they told him,“ because this is what was written by the prophet:And you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the leaders of Judah: because out of you will come a leader who will shepherd My people Israel.”Then Herod secretly summoned the wise men and asked them the exact time the star appeared.He sent them to Bethlehem and said,“ Go and search carefully for the child. When you find Him, report back to me so that I too can go and worship Him.”After hearing the king, they went on their way. And there it was— the star they had seen in the east! It led them until it came and stopped above the place where the child was.When they saw the star, they were overjoyed beyond measure.Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary His mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped Him. Then they opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.And being warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their own country by another route.After they were gone, an angel of the Lord suddenly appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying,“ Get up! Take the child and His mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you. For Herod is about to search for the child to destroy Him.”

For the residents of Jerusalem and their rulers, since they did not recognize Him or the voices of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, have fulfilled their words by condemning Him.Though they found no grounds for the death penalty, they asked Pilate to have Him killed.

Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of the pits. We can say that a vicious animal ate him. Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”

The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers conspire together against the Lord and His Anointed One:“ Let us tear off their chains and free ourselves from their restraints.”
