耶穌對他們說：「人怎麼說基督是大衛的後裔呢？大衛自己在詩篇裡說：『主對我主說：你坐在我的右邊，等我把你的敵人放在你的腳下做腳凳。』大衛既然稱基督為『主』，基督又怎麼會是大衛的後裔呢？」

這時候，耶穌對那群人說：「你們帶著刀劍和棍棒出來抓我，就像對付強盜那樣嗎？我天天坐在聖殿裡教導人，你們並沒有抓我。

耶穌白天在聖殿裡教導人，夜間出去到那叫做「橄欖園」的山裡過夜。

經上不是說，基督是大衛的後裔，是出自大衛的故鄉伯利恆嗎？」

耶穌回答他：「我一向公開地對世人講話。我總是在會堂和聖殿，就是所有猶太人聚集的地方教導人。我沒有在隱祕中講過什麼。

耶穌從那裡往前走，有兩個瞎眼的跟著他，呼叫說：「大衛的後裔，可憐我們吧！」

耶穌天天在聖殿裡教導人。祭司長們、經文士們和民間的首領們想要殺害他，

法利賽人聚集在一起的時候，耶穌問他們說：「關於基督，你們怎麼看？他是誰的後裔呢？」他們說：「是大衛的後裔。」耶穌問他們：「那麼，大衛藉著聖靈，怎麼還稱他為『主』呢？大衛說：『主對我主說：你坐在我的右邊，等我把你的敵人放在你的腳下。』「因此，大衛如果稱基督為『主』，基督怎麼會是大衛的後裔呢？」

他們又來到耶路撒冷。當耶穌在聖殿裡行走的時候，祭司長們、經文士們和長老們來到他那裡。
