耶穌見其應對有智、謂之曰、爾離天主國不遠矣、自是無敢問之者、○

When Jesus saw that he had answered wisely, he said to him,“ You are not far from the kingdom of God.” And from then on no one dared ask him any more questions.

後不復敢問之、○

眾無辭以對、嗣後無敢復問之者、

恆守所學之真道、能以正道勸勉人、且折服好辯駁者、蓋有多人不服者、言虛誕、行誘惑、而奉割禮者為尤甚、其口當塞、彼為卑污之利、教所不當教、而傾覆人之全家、

爾言恆當婉喻、如以鹽調和、則知所以對答各人、○

我儕知律法所言、為律法下之人言之、以塞諸口、使舉世服罪於天主前、故無人由遵行律法、得稱義於天主前、蓋由律法可知罪耳、○

昔我無律法而生、誡至、罪生而我死、

彼眾懵然懵然或作迷亂不復應答、無辭可辯、我俟之良久、皆默然無語、不復答一辭、

已傷之葦不折、燼餘之炷不滅、終使真法獲勝、

我由律法、而為律法已死、使我可為天主而生、
