撒母耳说：“耶和华喜悦燔祭和祭物，难道与喜悦人听从耶和华的话等同吗？看哪，听从胜过献祭，听命胜过公绵羊的脂油；

你们如果明白‘我要的是怜悯，而不是祭祀’这话是什么意思，就不会把无罪的定为有罪了。

你们去学‘我要的是怜悯，而不是祭祀’这话是什么意思吧！我来不是要召唤义人，而是要召唤罪人。”

我不是因你的祭物责备你，你的燔祭一直在我面前。我不从你家里拿公牛，不从你羊圈里拿公山羊；因为森林中的百兽是我的，千山上的牲畜也是我的。群山一切的飞鸟，我都认识，田野一切的走兽也都属我。我就算饥饿，也不用对你说，因为世界和其中所充满的都是我的。难道我吃壮牛的肉，喝公山羊的血吗？你要向神献上感谢为祭，又要向至高者还你所许的愿。在患难的日子里，你当呼求我，我必搭救你，而你将荣耀我。”

如果我能说人间和天使的各种殊言，却没有爱，我就成了嘈杂的锣、鸣响的钹；如果我有做先知传道的恩赐，也明白一切奥秘、一切知识，并有全备的信，以致能移山，却没有爱，我就一无所是；即使我把自己所拥有的一切分给穷人，又舍弃自己的身体被人焚烧，却没有爱，对我也毫无益处。

耶和华说：“你们所献的众多祭物，对我有什么意义呢？公绵羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂油，我已经腻烦了；公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血，我也不喜悦。你们来朝见我时，谁向你们要求这践踏我庭院的事呢？不要再带无用的供物了！献祭的香，是我所憎恶的；新月节、安息日、宣召的聚会——邪恶的严肃会，是我不能容忍的。你们的新月节和所定的节期，是我心里所恨恶的；它们成了我的重负，我已厌倦不堪。你们伸开双手祷告的时候，我必掩目不看你们；就算你们多多祷告，我也不垂听。你们的双手沾满了血！“洗涤自己，洁净自己吧，从我眼前除掉你们的恶行！当停止作恶，学习行善，寻求公正，指责欺压者，给孤儿伸冤，为寡妇辩屈！”

那献上感谢为祭的，就是荣耀我；那使自己道路正直的，我必使他得见神的救恩。”

难道这就是我所喜悦的禁食，这就是让人刻苦己心的日子吗？难道是让人像芦苇一样垂着头，以麻布和灰烬为铺吗？难道这就是你所谓的禁食，这就是耶和华所悦纳的日子吗？我所喜悦的禁食，难道不是以下这样吗？松开邪恶的锁链，解开轭上的绳索，使被欺压的人得自由，折断一切的轭，把你的粮食分给饥饿的人，把流浪的困苦人接到家中，见到赤身的人就给他衣服穿，不回避有需要的骨肉之亲。

实行公义和公正，比献祭更蒙耶和华悦纳。

上文说：祭物、供物、燔祭和赎罪祭不是你所希望的，也不是你所喜悦的，尽管这些都是照着律法献上的；
