我要拿什么朝见耶和华，在天上的上帝面前叩拜呢？要献上一岁的牛犊作燔祭吗？耶和华会喜爱成千的公羊和万条油河吗？我要因过犯而献上自己的长子，因心中的罪恶而献上亲生的骨肉吗？世人啊，耶和华已经指示你们何为良善。祂向你们所要的是什么呢？是要你们行公义，好怜悯，谦卑地与你们的上帝同行。

我喜爱怜悯之心，而非祭物；我喜爱人认识我，胜于燔祭。

撒母耳说：“耶和华喜欢燔祭和其他祭物，还是喜欢人们听从祂的话？顺服胜于献祭，听从耶和华胜过向祂献上公羊的脂肪。

如果你们明白‘我喜爱怜悯之心，而非祭物’这句经文的意义，就不会冤枉无辜了。

圣经上说，‘我喜爱怜悯之心，而非祭物’，你们去揣摩这句话的意思吧。我来不是要召义人，乃是要召罪人。”

我责怪你，不是因为你的祭物，也不是因为你经常献给我的燔祭。我不需要你棚里的公牛和圈里的山羊，因为林中的百兽是我的，群山上的牲畜是我的。山中的飞鸟和田野的动物都是我的。就是我饿了，也不用告诉你，因为世界和其中的一切都是我的。难道我吃公牛的肉，喝山羊的血吗？你要向上帝献上感恩祭，向至高者恪守诺言，在患难中呼求我，我必拯救你，你必尊崇我。”

即使我能说人类和天使的各种语言，如果没有爱，我不过像咣咣作响的锣和钹。即使我能做先知讲道，又明白各样的奥秘，而且学问渊博，甚至有移开山岭的信心，如果没有爱，我仍然算不了什么。即使我倾家荡产周济穷人，甚至舍己捐躯任人焚烧，如果没有爱，对我也毫无益处。

耶和华说：“你们献上许多祭物，对我有什么用呢？我厌烦公绵羊的燔祭和肥畜的脂肪，我不喜欢公牛、羊羔和公山羊的血。“你们来敬拜我的时候，谁要求你们带着这些来践踏我的院宇呢？不要再带毫无意义的祭物了。我憎恶你们烧的香，厌恶你们的朔日、安息日和大会。你们又作恶又举行庄严的聚会，令我无法容忍。我憎恶你们的朔日及其他节期，它们成了我的重担，令我厌倦。你们举手祷告，我必掩面不理。即使你们祷告再多，我也不会听，因为你们双手沾满鲜血。你们要洗净自己，停止作恶，不要让我再看见你们的恶行。你们要学习行善，追求正义，帮助受欺压的，替孤儿辩护，为寡妇申冤。”

向我献上感恩就是尊崇我，我必拯救走正路的人。”

难道这是我要的禁食吗？难道刻苦己身、像芦苇一样垂着头、躺在麻布和炉灰上就是禁食吗？这就是你们所谓的禁食，所谓的蒙耶和华悦纳的日子吗？“‘我要的禁食是，除去罪恶的锁链，解开轭上的绳索，折断一切的轭，使受欺压的人得到自由，把你们的食物分给饥饿的人，接待无家可归的穷人，送衣服给赤身露体的人，不躲避求助的亲人。

秉公行义比献祭更蒙耶和华喜悦。

“我憎恶、鄙弃你们的节期，厌恶你们的圣会。即使你们献上燔祭和素祭，我也不悦纳；即使你们用肥美的牲畜献上平安祭，我也不屑一顾。撤去你们嘈杂的歌声吧，我不想听到你们的琴音。惟愿公正如江河滔滔不尽，公义如溪流绵绵不绝。

以色列的上帝——万军之耶和华说：“你们把平安祭连同燔祭都拿去吃吧！因为我把你们祖先带出埃及的时候，并没有吩咐他们献燔祭或其他祭物，只吩咐他们，‘你们要听从我的话，我就做你们的上帝，你们做我的子民；你们遵行我的吩咐，就必蒙福。’

基督首先说：“祭物、供物、燔祭和赎罪祭都不是你想要的，也不是你喜悦的。”这些都是依照律法献上的。
