And stunned by his answer, they fell silent.

So the Pharisees went out immediately and began plotting with the Herodians, as to how they could assassinate him.

And Jesus ordered them,“ Watch out! Beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod!”

Then some people said,“ Come on! Let us consider how to deal with Jeremiah! There will still be priests to instruct us, wise men to give us advice, and prophets to declare God’s word. Come on! Let’s bring charges against him and get rid of him! Then we will not need to pay attention to anything he says.”

Those who seek my life try to entrap me; those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things.

Proud men hide a snare for me; evil men spread a net by the path; they set traps for me.( Selah)

All day long they cause me trouble; they make a habit of plotting my demise.They stalk and lurk; they watch my every step, as they prepare to take my life.

Then the Pharisees went out and planned together to entrap him with his own words.They sent to him their disciples along with the Herodians, saying,“ Teacher, we know that you are truthful, and teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You do not court anyone’s favor because you show no partiality.Tell us then, what do you think? Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”But Jesus realized their evil intentions and said,“ Hypocrites! Why are you testing me?Show me the coin used for the tax.” So they brought him a denarius.Jesus said to them,“ Whose image is this, and whose inscription?”They replied,“ Caesar’s.” He said to them,“ Then give to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”Now when they heard this they were stunned, and they left him and went away.

“ Watch out,” Jesus said to them,“ beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”
