如果有人想要傷害他們，火就從他們的口中出來，吞滅他們的敵人；如果有人想要傷害他們，就必定這樣被殺。這兩個人有權柄閉塞天空，使雨水在他們做先知傳道的日子不降下來；又有權柄統管眾水，使水變成血，並且能隨時隨意用各樣災害擊打大地。他們做完了見證以後，那從無底坑裡上來的獸將與他們作戰，並且將勝過他們，把他們殺死。他們的屍體會被拋在大城的街道上。這大城按屬靈的意思叫做所多瑪，又叫做埃及，也就是他們的主被釘十字架的地方。來自各民族、各支派、各語言群體和各國家的人，都要觀看他們的屍體三天半，又不准人把他們的屍體安放在墳墓裡。住在地上的人都因他們的死而歡喜、慶祝，並且要彼此送禮，因為這兩位先知曾使住在地上的人受痛苦。

從那天起，他們就商議要把耶穌殺掉。因此，耶穌不再公開地在猶太人當中行事，而是離開那裡，到曠野附近的地方，進了一個叫以法蓮的城，在那裡與門徒們住下了。猶太人的逾越節快到了。許多人從鄉下上耶路撒冷去，要在節日前潔淨自己。他們尋找耶穌，站在聖殿裡彼此談論說：「你們怎麼看，他絕不會來過節吧？」原來，祭司長們和法利賽人早就下令，如果有人知道耶穌在哪裡，就要報告，好抓住他。

大家都讚許他，對他口裡所發出的恩典的話語感到驚奇，又說：「這不就是約瑟的兒子嗎？」
