Now early in the morning, as he returned to the city, he was hungry.After noticing a fig tree by the road he went to it, but found nothing on it except leaves. He said to it,“ Never again will there be fruit from you!” And the fig tree withered at once.When the disciples saw it they were amazed, saying,“ How did the fig tree wither so quickly?”Jesus answered them,“ I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only will you do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain,‘ Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen.And whatever you ask in prayer, if you believe, you will receive.”

After he fasted forty days and forty nights he was famished.

Jacob’s well was there, so Jesus, since he was tired from the journey, sat right down beside the well. It was about noon.A Samaritan woman came to draw water. Jesus said to her,“ Give me some water to drink.”

Meanwhile the disciples were urging him,“ Rabbi, eat something.”But he said to them,“ I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”So the disciples began to say to one another,“ No one brought him anything to eat, did they?”

where for forty days he endured temptations from the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when they were completed, he was famished.

Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people.

After this Jesus, realizing that by this time everything was completed, said( in order to fulfill the scripture),“ I am thirsty!”
