耶穌說：『我實在告訴你們，人為了我、並為了福音、撇下了房屋、或弟兄、或姐妹、或母親或父親、或兒女、或田地，

愛父親或母親過於愛我的，配不起我；愛兒子或女兒過於愛我的，配不起我；

『人來找我，除非少愛自己的父親、母親、妻子、弟兄、姐妹、甚至於自己的性命、就不能做我的門徒。

所以我們從今以後不再按人的肉體認識人了；縱使曾按其肉體認識基督，如今卻不再這樣認識他了。

對他自己的父母利未是說：我沒有看見；他的弟兄、他不承認，他的兒女、他不認識；因為利未人謹守你說的話，你的約他們恪守着。

門徒中另有一個人對耶穌說：『主啊，准我先去埋葬我的父親。』耶穌對他說：『你跟從我；任憑那些死人去埋葬他們的死人！』

從那裏往前走，他看見了另有兄弟二人，就是西庇太的兒子雅各、和他兄弟約翰，同他們的父親西庇太在船上、修整着網子，就呼召他們。他們立刻撇下了船和父親，來跟從耶穌。

以利沙就撇下那些牛，跑去追上以利亞，說：『請容我先和父母親嘴，然後我便來跟隨你。』以利亞對他說：『你去吧，可要回來；因為我向你作了甚麼、你總要記得。』
