Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, He departed to Galilee.

And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near.

“ The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

also added this, above all, that he shut John up in prison.

and said to his servants,“ This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead, and therefore these powers are at work in him.”

Now it came to pass, afterward, that He went through every city and village, preaching and bringing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. And the twelve were with Him,

but He said to them,“ I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent.”And He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:“ The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, Because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who are oppressed;To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”

And when John had heard in prison about the works of Christ, he sent two of his disciples

“ And indeed, now I know that you all, among whom I have gone preaching the kingdom of God, will see my face no more.

After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized.For John had not yet been thrown into prison.

So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.
