Listen! The Lord is calling to the city— and to fear your name is wisdom—“ Heed the rod and the One who appointed it.

The Lord is calling out to Jerusalem. And it would be wise to pay attention to him. He says,“ Listen, tribe of Judah and you people who are gathered in the city.

The voice of the Lord cries to the city— and it is sound wisdom to fear your name:“ Hear of the rod and of him who appointed it!

Fear the Lord if you are wise! His voice calls to everyone in Jerusalem:“ The armies of destruction are coming; the Lord is sending them.

The voice of the LORD calls out to the city( and it is wise to fear your name):“ Pay attention to the rod and the one who ordained it.

The voice of the Lord will call to the city— And it is sound wisdom to fear Your name:“ Hear, you tribe. Who has designated its time?

The LORD’s voice cries to the city— Wisdom shall see Your name:“ Hear the Rod! Who has appointed it?

The voice of Jehovah crieth unto the city, and the man of wisdom will see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.

The voice of Yahweh calls out to the city( and it is wise to fear Your name):“ Pay attention to the rod and the One who ordained it.

Listen! The LORD is calling to the city! It is wise to respect your authority, O LORD! Listen, O nation, and those assembled in the city!

Yahweh’s voice calls to the city, and wisdom sees your name:“ Listen to the rod, and he who appointed it.

She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.

Behold, the name of the LORD cometh from far, burning[ with] his anger, and the burden[ thereof is] heavy: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue as a devouring fire:

O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.

As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.

And it came to pass, when the king had heard the words of the book of the law, that he rent his clothes.And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Achbor the son of Michaiah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asahiah a servant of the king’s, saying,Go ye, enquire of the LORD for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that is found: for great[ is] the wrath of the LORD that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not hearkened unto the words of this book, to do according unto all that which is written concerning us.So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asahiah, went unto Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe;( now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the college;) and they communed with her.And she said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Tell the man that sent you to me,Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, and upon the inhabitants thereof,[ even] all the words of the book which the king of Judah hath read:Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore my wrath shall be kindled against this place, and shall not be quenched.But to the king of Judah which sent you to enquire of the LORD, thus shall ye say to him, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel,[ As touching] the words which thou hast heard;Because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the LORD, when thou heardest what I spake against this place, and against the inhabitants thereof, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and hast rent thy clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard[ thee], saith the LORD.Behold therefore, I will gather thee unto thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered into thy grave in peace; and thine eyes shall not see all the evil which I will bring upon this place. And they brought the king word again.

And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city, and take it, and burn it with fire.Thus saith the LORD; Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us: for they shall not depart.For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained[ but] wounded men among them,[ yet] should they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

A voice of noise from the city, a voice from the temple, a voice of the LORD that rendereth recompence to his enemies.

The city of confusion is broken down: every house is shut up, that no man may come in.[ There is] a crying for wine in the streets; all joy is darkened, the mirth of the land is gone.In the city is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and[ there is] no healing for us? we looked for peace, and[ there is] no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble!We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness,[ and] the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee.Do not abhor[ us], for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.Are there[ any] among the vanities of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers?[ art] not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these[ things].

And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as[ one] breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury[ them] in Tophet, till[ there be] no place to bury.Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and[ even] make this city as Tophet:And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.

Micah the Morasthite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and spake to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Zion shall be plowed[ like] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of a forest.

Who[ is] wise, and he shall understand these[ things]? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD[ are] right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages[ to put it] into a bag with holes.Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways.

That[ men] may know that thou, whose name alone[ is] JEHOVAH,[ art] the most high over all the earth.

Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed[ as] a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.

And the LORD descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the LORD.And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear[ the guilty]; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth[ generation].

And I also have given you cleanness of teeth in all your cities, and want of bread in all your places: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.And also I have withholden the rain from you, when[ there were] yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.So two[ or] three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have smitten you with blasting and mildew: when your gardens and your vineyards and your fig trees and your olive trees increased, the palmerworm devoured[ them]: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have sent among you the pestilence after the manner of Egypt: your young men have I slain with the sword, and have taken away your horses; and I have made the stink of your camps to come up unto your nostrils: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.I have overthrown[ some] of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.Therefore thus will I do unto thee, O Israel:[ and] because I will do this unto thee, prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.

The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.For they know not to do right, saith the LORD, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; An adversary[ there shall be] even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus[ in] a couch.Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord GOD, the God of hosts,That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the LORD.

The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh[ is] grass, and all the goodliness thereof[ is] as the flower of the field:The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people[ is] grass.The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.

Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the LORD.Let us lift up our heart with[ our] hands unto God in the heavens.We have transgressed and have rebelled: thou hast not pardoned.

The LORD is known[ by] the judgment[ which] he executeth: the wicked is snared in the work of his own hands. Higgaion. Selah.

And Jonah began to enter into the city a day’s journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered[ him] with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.And he caused[ it] to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that[ is] in their hands.Who can tell[ if] God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did[ it] not.

And the LORD shall utter his voice before his army: for his camp[ is] very great: for[ he is] strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD[ is] great and very terrible; and who can abide it?Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye[ even] to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he[ is] gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.Who knoweth[ if] he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him;[ even] a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly:Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where[ is] their God?Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.

Woe to them[ that are] at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria,[ which are] named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

I will say unto God, Do not condemn me; shew me wherefore thou contendest with me.

Although affliction cometh not forth of the dust, neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;Yet man is born unto trouble, as the sparks fly upward.I would seek unto God, and unto God would I commit my cause:

Then will I make this house like Shiloh, and will make this city a curse to all the nations of the earth.

LORD,[ when] thy hand is lifted up, they will not see:[ but] they shall see, and be ashamed for[ their] envy at the people; yea, the fire of thine enemies shall devour them.

Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered,[ It is] for Saul, and for[ his] bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns[ and] briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy[ in] the joyous city:Because the palaces shall be forsaken; the multitude of the city shall be left; the forts and towers shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;

Whoso[ is] wise, and will observe these[ things], even they shall understand the lovingkindness of the LORD.

According to thy name, O God, so[ is] thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

Yet the defenced city[ shall be] desolate,[ and] the habitation forsaken, and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof.

Behold, happy[ is] the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty:

A prudent[ man] foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.
