「你自幼就勤練符咒和五花八門的邪術，繼續施展吧！也許會有用處，也許會令人害怕。眾多的計謀使你疲憊不堪，讓那些觀天象、每月說預言的占星家來救你脫離將臨的災禍吧！「看啊，他們不過像枯草，必遭焚燒，無法救自己脫離烈焰。這火並非取暖的炭火，也不是人可以靠近的火。

你要默然哀歎，不可為死人辦喪事，仍要纏著頭巾，穿著鞋，不可蒙著臉，也不可吃喪家吃的飯。」

於是，掃羅求問上帝，說：「耶和華啊，我們可以去追殺非利士人嗎？你會把他們交在以色列人手裡嗎？」但耶和華那日沒有回答他。

從前在以色列，如果人們要求問上帝，他們會說：「讓我們去找先見吧。」當時「先知」被稱為「先見」。

列國看見這一切，都必因自己勢力衰微而羞愧，都必用手捂口，耳朵變聾。

埃及的巫師無法與摩西對抗，因為他們及所有埃及人身上都長了膿瘡。

現在這些人敵對真理，就像從前雅尼和佯庇反對摩西一樣，他們的心思壞透了，他們的信仰是虛假的。不過，他們猖狂不了多久，因為他們的愚昧行徑必暴露在眾人面前，就像雅尼和佯庇的下場一樣。

我們再也看不到你的徵兆，先知也沒有了。無人知道這一切何時才會結束。

撒母耳對掃羅說：「你為什麼打擾我，招我上來呢？」掃羅答道：「我深陷困境，非利士人與我們交戰，上帝也撇棄了我，不再藉著先知或夢來回答我。因此，我只好招你上來，好告訴我該怎麼辦。」

巫師們也試圖用邪術變出蝨子來，卻無法成功。埃及的百姓和牲畜身上長滿了蝨子。巫師們對法老說：「這是上帝的作為。」法老的心卻仍然剛硬，不肯答應摩西和亞倫的要求，正如耶和華所言。

你們若不將夢告訴我，我必懲治你們。你們串通起來在我面前胡言亂語，期待情況會改變。現在將夢告訴我，我就相信你們能解夢。」占星家說：「王所要求的，世上無人能做到，因為再偉大、再有權勢的君王也沒問過術士、巫師或占星家這樣的事。王問的事太難，除了不在人間居住的神明外，無人能為王解答。」
